Vice President Joe Biden joined U.S. Senate candidate Chris Coons at his headquarters on Union Street in Wilmington to thank volunteers and friends for their work on the campaign. The visit attracted a throng of reporters as interest in the contest between Coons and surprise Republican nominee Christine O'Donnell reached a fever pitch.

Biden spoke about the need to retain the seat he formerly held and to protect the reforms that he and President Barack Obama have championed since their time in office. The VP continued by stating that the financial needs of the middle class must be met to ensure that the United States will emerge from the "worst recession this country has seen, that was not a depression."

___ Speaking to a room full of supporters, Vice President Biden says he hasn't met any one in the last 40 years more fit to be Senator.

"I know of no person, who is more qualified intellectually, emotionally, and in terms of their character than Chris Coons."

Biden says even when Christine O'Donnell was his opponent he never took a negative approach, but he wonders...

"How is she gonna help the folks in the neighborhood in Claymont I grew up in? How is she gonna help them get a job?"

___ Vice President Joe Biden said Friday that the Republican candidate running for his old Senate seat in Delaware would take Congress back to an era of GOP control "on steroids," telling Democratic volunteers that the race is not a slam dunk for their candidate and to campaign "as serious as you possibly can."

Without naming upstart "tea party" candidate Christine O'Donnell directly, Biden told volunteers in his home state to expect a rough-and-tumble final weeks toward the November election and stressed the support his family, including his son, Beau, are giving Democrat Chris Coons.

"Do not take this lightly," Biden said during a stop at a Democratic Party campaign office in Wilmington. "Gird your loins for anything… It's not likely to be a straightforward debate."

It's time to throw a few bucks his way.

3. I saw a clip of what I took to be a Coons/O'Donnell debate and he was saying
"I don't think anybody is interested in what either one of us said 20 years ago" which I thought was pretty classy. Plus, bringing it into the NOW and nipping any criticisms of his past in the bud (not that I'm aware of any problems, but I don't trust those jerks). The media is having such a heyday with O'Donnell, they'll be spreading the whacky stories around so he doesn't have to.
