I just spent 3 hours campaigning for Chris Coons here in Wilmington
My campaigning partner for the day was someone who was born and raised in Delaware but moved to New Jersey a few years ago. He said he made the call to volunteer the day after the primaries. Since nothing is happening in NJ this season he wants to reach out to help in Delaware.

We campaigned in a neighborhood that has strong support for Obama but spotty record for voter turnout. For Coons to win he needs to make sure those folks show up to the primary. One woman said that Coons has been to her church twice to meet & greet customers - this was a church made up mostly of primaries. She said that the audience adored Chris Coons and they all want to work hard to send someone to DC that will work with Obama not say 'no' to everything.

Christine O'Donnell has no message for Delaware just teabagging rhetoric that won't work for our state. Since this HQ is a few blocks from my house I plan on spending a few nights each week and Saturdays helping to get out to vote. I also asked what supplies they need for HQ and will bring a few cases of bottled water, paper towels and hand soap.

I'd like to invite anyone and everyone from New Jersey to come join us and help keep O'Donnell out of office!

9. Well where we went they think O'Donnell is a nutjob
The neighborhood is primarily African-american but definitely working-class neighborhood. One woman saw us and thought we were there for O'Donnell. I assured her that I worked hard to get Obama elected and was doing my part to send people to DC that would help Obama not just scream 'no'.

The thing is this, we can see how these people voted the past 3 general elections and past 3 primaries. Mind you - just if they voted but not for whom. And some of these were very spotty voting records. So even if they are all excited about electing Coons & Carney we need to get them to the polls!

BTW we were also campaigning for John Carney too!

13. Get something that tells everyone exactly who you're behind
A teashirt pin or logo with Obama's face on it will open tons of doors for you and also help you spot the tebaggerati instantly.

10. Thanks for all your efforts.
I can't imagine Delaware electing O'Donnell, but in this climate, I'm beginning to believe that the Repubs could run a dog for the Senate and win.

16. Are you canvassing for dems
only or indies and R's too? Wondering what their reception would be, are they willing to cross over or just stay home.

20. I'm canvasing for all dems. We handed out John Carney literature too
The HQ near my house is for democrats. Chris Coons' main office is in New Castle. Honestly, I'm not much of a driver after dark so for me to drive to New Castle would find me slacking off. For me to walk 5.5 blocks is no excuse!

21. So you have a chance of replacing Castle
with a dem also. Good deal!

Later in the month we go to GOP houses and indies too.
When we did our petitioning to get them on the ballot in June our Blue Dog didn't get a good reception but the guy who is running against him is way too conservative for this district so he might get back in.

I like canvassing but the phone lists drive me nuts. People are nicer in person than on the phone.

The key to this election is going to be boosting voter turnout in New Castle county.
