Anyway you look at it, O'Donnell is TOAST
- A probable FEC investigation.

- The newsies smelling blood in the water.

- A history of crazy statements.

- Political support ONLY from the fringe.

- And lot's of Bill Maher and CSPAN footage.

If she's not covered with butter and jam by November, I'll be surprised.

1. Seriously, the Dems losing that seat....
....is about as crazy as Dems losing Ted Kennedy's seat in Mass.

Oh wait......

Just remember that's the last time we thought we had a slam dunk.

7. That is not negative talk, it is warning people do NOT take anything for granted
For one thing, the repuke who lost to her could run as an independent or maybe write-in

No one knows what that would do

Though the odds have improved considerably for the Democrat, nothing should be taken for granted

40. It's not negative talk to realize that you have to agressivly campaign, even against fringe loons.
Martha Coakley decided to laugh off her opponent and led to her losing.

Hubris and pride are not good traits in a political campaign.

Yes O'Donnel is a terrible candidate who has little chance of winning but can't just not run against her.

53. The real danger is her teflon and charisma. Check her out in this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDZE8lKrVys&feature=player_embedded

She's absolutely lovely and radiant and knows how to seduce the camera. And charges just bounce off her. I never saw such a good liar given what she has to work with. Man, she just never breaks a sweat.

I wouldn't underestimate her.

She's a dream come true for low-information voters. What Bill Maher said: Palin is nasty but she's nice. Very hard to get a piece of her because she's always confident and smiling.

I don't care what the political environment was--if she had CAMPAIGNED, she would have WON. Stop using the Massachusetts Senate race as a stalking horse. People paid attention--they know not to be dead fish no matter how certain your prospects look.

18. If she only had support from the fringe, how did she win this
primary? I have no doubt that she is toast, I figured if she won that was the best thing that could happen for the Dems. But I didn't see how she could win with all the Rep voters, and she did. The crazy statements were going on before the election, although this new one is a doozy. I hope you are right, but Delaware Dems had better not take this as a given.

36. But still...
that means that over 50% of the Republicans who voted (and are likely to vote again in the general election) had voted for her. That is really scary. It either means that the nut jobs are the majority of the people heading to the polls, or more of all the Republicans liked her.

I agree, this support (based on 50/50 Dem/Rep in Delaware) is only 25% of the likely voters and she is toast. But still. Over 50% of those voters stuns me.

If it was a small amount, then they were active in the primary but still a small total of overall GOP voters who may stay home on Nov 2.

41. All I could find is that 57,500 votes were cast in the Rep race.
She won 53 to 47%. The last piece of the puzzle would be, how many "likely Rep voters" are there in Delaware, or even how many registered Rep voters? But 57,500 sounds low to me. Good point you made.

27. She's toast.
It's a small state. She's run twice before. Everyone in the state at this point knows of her, and has either met her, or has met someone who met her. You can buy media from now till Doomsday, but it won't move the needle one way or the other, if you're known, personally known, to enough voters. I've seen this happen in Maine, another small state. This is why Snowe, and to a lesser extent, Collins, are very, very hard to dislodge.

The state is basically a blue state. The woman won a Republican closed primary. 30,000 votes, total. Obama won 60-40 with a quarter of a million.

Coons by 15.

34. Sorry, it ain't over until it's over. The notion that this, that, or the
other obviously idiotic and insane Republican is "toast" has been proven wrong so often that I just cannot trust the American voters to do the right thing. Half of them voted for her in CT without knowing anything about her except that she wsn't the incumbent. (I have read articlws quoting voters who said precisely that!) A lot of idiots will vote for her just ebcause the Dems are currently in power and she is not a Dem, and they will be "Shocked, shocked, I tell you!" when they discover all the bizarre things sge believes.

American voters elected Ronald Reagan and let the vote get close enough for the 2000 and 2004 elections to be hacked for W. In Minnesota they elect and re-elect Michelle Bachmann, who is about as bizarre as O'Donnell and doesn't exactly hide her nuttiness. They will elect all sorts of bizarre people.

The only good thing about O'Donnell's clear nuttiness is that if the Dems use it, they can GOTV by scaring the bejeebus out of saner voters in CT. If she gets in--and she could--then the fact that she is so nutty makes it even worse than it otherwise would be to have a Repub in that seat.

37. I wish I could assume that but I won't. Not until the election is done and she concedes
She won because Mike Castle became complacent and assumed people would vote for him.

In 2000, Tom Carper won because Bill Roth became complacent and assumed people would vote for him.

The sad message is this - Republicans have historically has had much more reliable voter turnout than democrats. If we can turn out the vote in November she can't win.
