That's how long Bermuda will be enduring Igor. Mercifully, the winds are down to 100 mph. But the storm is huge and every last mile of it will pass over Bermuda. The current expectation is that the farthest off shore the storm *might* pass is 10 miles.

The island is relatively prosperous. The building codes are strong, and the buildings mostly of concrete. I wish the 60,000 souls there the very best of luck and good fortune. It is one of the nicest places on the planet.

1. Many houses are stone.
And they have hurricane shutters for the windows and entrances. Stay safe Bermuda!

3. Even minimal hurricanes are loud, wet and uncomfortable
and the worst sound in the world is that of the lawn furniture and trash cans your nitwit neighbor refused to lift a pinkie to move inside smashing into your house. At least you hope that's the worst you hear.

The air is so wet you can cut it with a knife and your ears hurt when the eye passes overhead and there are rapid air pressure changes. Oh, and don't forget using all your towels to sop up the water that's being blown through every crack into your house.

I hope it picks up speed so Bermuda doesn't have to deal with it per Stinky's prediction. If they have to get stuck with it, let it be over soon.

4. The eye of hurricane Jeanne went right over my town in FL. 100-120 mile an hour winds.
It was 4 hours of a screaming freight train then an hour of complete silence and stillness as the eye passed over then 4+ more hours of a screaming freight train.

I feel for everyone in Bermuda.

Strong winds still make a little bit nervous today.

5. Gale force winds for 40 hours
Hurricane force winds for 11 hours according to the latest from the Bermuda Weather Service.

Flooding is going to be a problem. I just hope they don't lose the causeway.
