Man Caught Dumping 8-Year-Old Dog-UK

<snip>
On Thursday, September 16, a cowardly act was caught on CCTV in Weymouth, England.

A man in a blue Kia Rio hatchback was seen exiting his automobile with a dog and walking to a grassy area behind a parking lot next to an office building. Moments later the man is seen entering his car -- without the dog -- and driving off.

The next scene is heartbreaking.

The video then shows the dog hobbling after the car. Unable to keep up -- because her nails were so overgrown they were pressing into her pads -- she eventually gives up and sits down.

1. He should be taken out in the middle of nowhere and dumped
Edited on Thu Sep-23-10 04:20 PM by hobbit709
That would be fitting punishment for people like that.

Man Who Abandoned Dog in UK Identified

The owner of the dog abandoned in Weymouth, UK, whose act was caught on CCTV, has been identified as Andrew Shepherd, 48, of Bamber Bridge, Lancashire.

snip

The Daily Express also states, "Neighbours said Mr. Shepherd ... described as 'dirty, skinny, with long, lank hair' with a large 'red wine stain' birth mark on his face and 'a Jesus complex'."

As suspected from watching the CCTV video, Shepherd had accomplices in his cowardly deed. The driver was identified as Jenny Hadfield.

According to The Sun, Hadfield stated, "OK, I was behind the wheel of the car. I was driving. I didn't ask for all this trouble. It's my friend Shep's dog, not mine, but I was there."

3. My 4th, recently acquired cat had been dumped...I wanted him to come into my place
on his own, but he wouldn't, then I realized he couldn't climb the stairs, so I picked him up...I took him to the vet's 3 weeks later...lots of problems because he's so old, teeth missing, very bad arthritis, liver and kidney issues, although nothing is life-threatening, just because he's old. But yeah, someone dumped this sweet little guy knowing he wouldn't make it on his own.

10. He was so fortunate to have found you.
I adopted my last cat at age 12. She was also abandoned, and it took me four months of feeding her in my yard and a have-a-heart trap to finally bring her inside. She was incredibly skittish, but a trip to my vet determined that she had severe tooth problems, must have been in pain, poor little thing. After dental surgery, she became almost a lap cat. My heart breaks for the others out there... ;(

glad you got her. Mine is probably 16-17 years old...yeesh! Don't let me catch its previous owner.

19. Kudos to you!
16-17 is an amazing age for a dog. The oldest dog I adopted was my cocker, Barney. They said he was 10 or 11 and I had him for eight wonderful years... He had been a "stud dog" at a "commercial kennel" and was going to be put down because he got too old. He was rescued by a wonderful woman and found me. He is truly the best dog I'll ever know... :loveya:

I adopt senior dogs and they all have sad stories. Of the three that I adopted at age 8, over the years, Sheena's owner had died, Samantha was given up because she had seizures :grr:, and Sara was found as a stray on the streets of Ohio. She found her way to a rescue group in here NY via an "underground railroad" before finding me... :)

The only on-line pic I have is of Sara. She was such a sweet dog that I always thought she must have somehow gotten lost and someone was missing her... ;(

Sara :loveya:

24. I absolutely know the feeling...
I adopt senior animals because I feel that they're the ones who need me. The best dog I will ever know is my cocker, Barney, who was a "stud dog" at a "commercial kennel" whom they no longer wanted because he got too old. He was 10 or 11, had never lived with people and wasn't housebroken, so was considered tough to place, but he was absolutely perfect from day one with me. I had him for eight wonderful years... :loveya:

15. We adopted a cat which was dumped...
both he and his sib were dropped off in one of our friend's outbuildings on their farm in VA. He looks like a Maine Coon and is the best cat you could ever have. We also adopted a 7 yr. old yellow lab this year who was just days away from being taken to the pound. She's now my shadow and is an amazing dog. I just think that people who dump or get rid of animals so easily have something very sick inside of their heads.

25. I agree with you!
I've adopted several senior pets over the years, from rescue, and have never been disappointed. It sounds like we've had much the same experience and kudos to you for giving older pets a chance. How someone could part with a pet, especially an older one, is a mystery to me... ;(

32. Senior pets are so special!
We were specifically looking for an older pet because we've had puppies, have de-puppified the house and didn't want to go through that again. Also, older dogs are more settled down (which is better fitting for my personality, ha!).

Thanks to you too for being a new friend to an old soul who needs a home. :hi:

34. Thank you. And I also agree with you about puppies, LOL.
The best dog I will ever know was my cocker, Barney, who was 10 or 11 when he found me and I had him for eight wonderful years. I thought there would be a period of transition, since he'd spent his entire life at a "commercial kennel," but he was perfect from day one. :loveya:

My current dog, Jack, did find me as a puppy. I've always adopted senior dogs, but a vet tech who used to work for my vet was fostering Jack, who is the same unusual breed, a Brussels Griffon, as my other dog, Meneken, whom she knew, so she contacted me. I adopted Meneken at age nine after is elderly owner died... ;( Meneken was the ultimate velcro dog and went with me everywhere... O8)

Jack was a "pet shop rescue," couldn't be sold because he had a "health problem," just a hernia that was easily repaired when he was neutered. And it sure didn't slow him down, LOL. So I adopted Jack at five months, and now I really know why I adopt senior dogs... ;) Just kidding, he wasn't that bad, just a puppy. And he's four now, and my baby, so I'm hoping to have the advantage of having him with me for at least 20 years... :D

Jack :loveya:

30. There is a follow up in the story where they identify the assholes...
"The dog -- renamed Ginger by those who found her -- is being cared for at Woodlands Farm Kennels in Bridport. Hundreds of offers for adoption have poured in, but no decision will be made until the right family is found for her."

So it seems Ginger aka Brandy will find a new loving home soon.

8. The last three dogs I've had were dumped.
The last was just a month ago.

One in a parking lot, and two at the night-time drop off at the pound.

They have all been exceptionally sweet, beautiful, well-behaved animals...it boggles my mind how anyone could do this.

13. I fucking hate a lot of people.
I really do. My sweet viszla was dumped in the woods. When we found him, he had no fur, was about 15 pounds underweight and was on the verge of death. Our other two dogs were strays.

Sorry for the cursing.

20. My Springer was dumped at a post office street corner on one of the busiest
streets. Someone saw a guy in a truck throw him off the back end and drive out of town. The dog stayed in the same spot and a two block radius waiting for his owner to come back for a month! In the freezing weather!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No one could catch him but my husband dropped my home made spaghetti behind him and walked him to our yard where I shut the gate.
He sleeps on my pillow at night. He is still afraid of people.
I hate humans really.

It would hurt too much. I have a dog that I love like he's one of my children, and I've literally had *nightmares* that we got separated from him somehow and he kept trying to find us, but couldn't.

How can anyone do this?

"The maximum sentence is a six-month prison term and a £20,000 fine."

I would like to see it 10 years of hard labor and 100k pounds or dollars but it is still better than most places in the US where animals are considered "property".

EDIT - I should add that I hate when people torment animals.
