what I'm afraid of is a one-two punch by BushCo in the coming months . . .
the show of strength in the Gulf is but one of many indications that an attack on Iran is in the offing . . . we just don't know when . . .

and this new directive that makes Bush dictator in times of "national crisis" tells me that they're planning something domestically as well . . . either that, or they'll just wait for the first natural disaster of the season . . . either way, Bush has set himself up to assume dictatorial powers, and I have no doubt that he will use them -- unless he is stopped . . .

bottom line, the window for stopping BushCo is rapidly closing . . . taking impeachment "off the table," and giving Bush a blank check on Iraq are precisely the WRONG things to be doing if Congress has any concern for the future of this nation . . .

2. I agree.
It's getting harder and harder to be optimistic. I can't believe the Dems are letting this happen.

:-(

3. How about this:
1. This country is "attacked" (again).
2. * blames Iran.
3. As long as we're in the neighborhood with all those boats, we "retaliate" against Iran before getting hard facts or any facts at all.
4. Martial law and another war.

14. I meant it would be an attack
engineered by the white house, not by terrorists.

5. I believe that I read that the top naval officer in the Persian Gulf ...
... said that there will not be an unprovoked naval attack on Iran as long as he remains in charge. I'm hoping the military may be a brake on bushco. No one else is.

7. He would have to refuse to follow an order.
So, saying it and doing it are 2 different things.

But, personally, I beleive that attacking Iran at this time with our armed forces in the shape thy're in, is absolutely insane. It's possible that the military would make it clear to bush that he can't do it.

8. Key word is "unprovoked".
And we all know how those tiny countries always seem
to "provoke" us JUUUUUSSSST when we have our forces in
the best position to respond with massive devastation.

A small nuke in a US city would deliver a LOT of different
repub "wish list" items right now:
Martial law,
B*sh as absolute dictator "Unitary President"
instant war on Iran,
(and "proof" that they were right about Iran all along)
gasoline at 8 bucks a gallon,
no more free speech or dissent,
no more of those inconvenient "elections"
All liberals could be declared "enemy combatants".....

The list goes on and on- it would be a goddamn wet dream for them.

9/11 was a great Reichstag for them....just not QUITE Reichstag enough.
Some of our laws survived. They don't like that much.

12. then what?
I've tried picturing the country being put in a lockdown mode, it grinds to a halt and the financial wheels fall off the bus.

The capitalist economic picture has to have freedom of movement in order to survive, without the walmarts, the kmarts the dollar stores and the availability of semi affordable gasoline the United States squeaks to a stop. Picture truckers lined up along the interstate, frozen loads defrosting in the summer sun, not enough gas to get to the destination, what happens then? Tyson chicken, macDs, and the rest don't get supplies, their crews are sent home, nothing gets bought. That'll shake up the stock market for sure.

10. My thoughts precisely
we are in for some hell ... I keep thinking that he and his ilk will find a way for him to stay in power until his little war is over - and then keep it going for decades! <shudder>

15. Can someone give me a link to something about Bush's dictatorial directive?
I've read it but I've been on business travel and want to send the link to people I know in case they've missed it.
