If Obama slashes Soc Sec benefits, then he never planned on a second term.
That's how I see it.

He could do nothing until 2029. Raise the cap. Remove the cap on income taxed for soc. sec and there would be plenty of money. You could double benefits.

I just learned yesterday that Bush invested the interest on our soc. sec in accounts that don't accumulate interest for the last 8 years, and allows government to do what they want with that money. Obama needs to change that back too, investing our interest in interest bearing securities, government does not touch. That's our money. There is no need to cut benefits. That interest of the last eight years was to pay for the baby boomers. It's gone. Bush did that.

I don't want to hear arguments that this is hard for dems cuz it's a tax hike. How was it ever passed in the first place? Obama should raise the cap in 2020 and be done with it. Work on pressing issues here, there are so many. Soc. Sec. contributes nothing to the debt. It should not even be on the table of the "debt commission". He put it there. If he cuts benefits that are already low by other countries standards...then I will know he had NO intention of doing a second term. Just escalating Bush policies.

Has the hopium worn off yet?
