Federal Inmates Learn Salsa Dancing - Eating Pink Salmon And Enjoy E-Mailing
Source: WV News

The Bureau of Prisons (BOP) leisure time now includes e-mail access between inmates, their family and friends. Dance classes, (including salsa and tango) yoga, spin cycling, cross trainers, weight training, leather crafts, painting, ceramics and much more.

There are costs involved to use the phone, e-mail services and for arts and crafts supplies. Approximately .23 cents a minute to use the telephones and .05 cents a minute for e-mail. Anyone convicted of a sex crime is not allowed to use the internet.

On weekends the institution shows newly released movies that run from Friday evening through Sunday. Even sunbathing has become the norm during summer months.

Inmates even have designated areas that they can work on their tans on the recreation yard, known as "Peter Beach." And, lets not forget the new "national menu" that includes Baked Ziti, Grouper and Hailibut. "Hamburgers and French Fries" every Wednsday.

1. As long as the PWC get rich off these prisons, that's all that matters.
(PWC = people who count)

We're all prisoners here on this planet for their sole pleasure. Like cattle.

That's what they believe.

2. Should they be making gravel from big rocks?
I rather expect that these leisure time activities are considered 'privileges' and that they can be suspended. In that way I would think that giving prisoners 'wants' creates some leverage by which the institution can 'guide' their behavior.

3. Wow, Sam
You sound jealous. If they have it so good, why not join them and enjoy the cushy life in prison?

4. This is hardly breaking news
The date on the article is 3 days ago.

I would also question the motives for posting a story. I for one, am heartened to see prisoners being treated humanely.

8. Not only not LBN, it's not from a news media source.
WV News is the name of the blog.

And to the OP: if this is your blog, it's called concertina wire.

5. Of all the things wrong with the US prison system...
Edited on Tue Nov-23-10 01:32 PM by Bragi
Overly generous benefits for prisoners is not on anyone's list of what's wrong with America's dreadful prison industry. Or at least anyone other than our very own Sam W.

So what's up with this, Sam?

6. 23 cents a minute for a phone call seems to be a bit large.

9. Considering that these 'club Fed' prisoners are not likely to be the
lifetime gang members, serial killers and other such of high security prisons, but embezzelers, ponzi scammers and other white collar criminals - many of whom will still have millions of ill-gotten gains upon their release - I don't think 23 cents a minute is overly burdensome.

This is clearly not referring to those who are on 23 hour lockdown.

Is this All The News That Fits up there in WV, Sam? Nice that you could come by and share that with all us uninformed libruls.

Now, where's that .357, (unloaded?) And, this time, I'll make sure I fuel up BEFORE I go inside to rob the 7/11. Oh, yes, don't forget the Huggies!
