Its nice to see GD with such frank threads about Obama lately
It seems a tipping point has been reached and more and more people are unafraid of speaking up about this president.

People are waking up to the reality that this president is not serving the Democratic party well.

9. I like posts I agree with as well. I think the point the OP was making...
...was that these threads are much more frequent now. In fact a thread about throwing Obama out in 2012 was the number one thread today (not that I necessarily agree with that). So you might want to take the hint, hopefully the president does as well. Because the next elections are only 23 months away. And you can belittle people that are upset with him all you want, but those people are only growing in number as you can clearly see here.

By the way...K&R

67. But you do realize ...
that if all Democrats marched in lock step ... like the freepers ... we would be getting everything we wished for out of PRESIDENT Obama.

As it stands, PRESIDENT Obama can't count on the Democrats in congress to support him, and we are showing him that he can't count on the Democrat public to MAKE the congressional democrats. We'd rather grouse about PRESIDENT Obama's "weakness."

Here's a thought ...

How about the next time PRESIDENT Obama says "I want to accomplish this ..."; how about EVERYONE on DU (and everyone that we know) call their representatives everyday for a month, demanding that they support PRESIDENT Obama's plan. I would imagine we would see an immediate change in posture.

The Congress pushed through everything he wanted - even if it wasn't what the electorate wanted. The Senate was the problem, and will continue to be the problem.

Blaming Democrats for not marching in lockstep is the sort of mindset that belongs on Free Republic - not here.

88. Sure thing
I'll sign up for this as soon as Obama proposes something that supports, or acknowledges the existence of, my values. So far pretty much all he has had to offer is mainstream hard-right-wing policies as an alternative to fanatical nutcase right-wing policies.

Single payer? Sure - we can mostly get behind it.
Prosecuting, and convicting, criminals in the banking industry? Sure - we can mostly get behind it.
Dismantling our motivations for continuing the Middle East wars so that we can end them? Sure thing.
Leveling the income disparity? Sure thing.
Removing corporate lapdogs from regulatory agencies? Sure thing.
Taxing corporations according to what they cost us in environmental and other costs? Sure thing.
A corporations-are-not-people constitutional amendment? Sure thing.

and so on...

We call, we e-mail & FAX, we write LTTE and we march and donate. We dig up news that's buried an we've spawned numerous activists all over the nation.

And still they ignore us.

So you see, your imagination has no relationship with reality.

If you are interested in reality, http://maximinlaw.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/6674229-citigroup-mar-5-2006-plutonomy-report-part-2-1-1.pdf">Here's a place to start. This is the reality today, learn it, know it, ,and then you can help to fight it.

11. He had two directions he could go after the election.
He went the wrong way. Again.

I hold a little hope he will awaken next year and figure out he's going the wrong way, but that's not based upon anything he's done so far. It's just hope against hope.

He's truly the most disappointing Democratic politician of my 40 years as an active Democrat. I thought he might turn out to be a caretaker president, but he's not even that.

We'd better worry about 2012, because this isn't looking good. He's going to keep moving right, and like Lucy and Charlie Brown, they're going to keep pulling the football out from under him.

Oh, well, the good news is he'll make history forget whatever shortcomings Carter may have had.

He was terrible at messaging, that I will admit, but that is where I draw the line. He had all the right ideas at the right time. His plans to promote solar power, energy efficiency in buildings and appliances, and his plan to get us 100% free of foreign oil was the right plan for America. He would have had us 100% energy independent by the year 2000. But, instead, we got Ronny Raygun who immediately removed the solar panels from the White House, gave the oil companies everything they asked for on the promise that they could "drill us out of the problem" which has been proven false and ludicrous. Thanks to Ronny, we use more than twice the foreign oil as a percentage than we did when he was elected. Nice job, dumbass!

It was "morning in America" but let's not mention the fact that we'll all be dead within 100 years because of the rampant pollution and climate change, resulting in catastrophes on such a scale we could never have even imagined before --and it's only going to get worse in the decades to come. Oh, yeah. Reagan was the best President we've ever had! Scratch that. Make that the biggest dumbass ever...

Edited to add:
You are right, though. He had two directions he could go and he chose to go to the right instead of channeling FDR and taking on the psycho right with guts and gusto and a forceful attitude. He should have been pounding the Dems in the House and Senate for their inaction on Progressive legislation. He should have been talking about another New Deal. Instead he gave us all a RAW DEAL.

Please explain. For many here on DU, the "tipping point" was reached at the selection of the Convocation Speaker to the 2009 Inauguration. And for some it was a bit earlier, and goes back to Hillary's defeat in the 2008 Primaries.

56. That describes me to a tee.
I was a rabid Obama supporter but started to change with every action he took, every capitulation to the right wing, every unilateral surrender before the debate even started (aka throwing out single payer before debate even began, instead of using it as a bargaining chip to end up with a Public Option).

President Obama deserves to be primaried out in 2012. Once we get a REAL Democrat on the ticket, we will regain the House and overwhelm the Senate. If Obama is the Democratic Party choice in 2012 the Pukes will take the Senate, further dominate the House and we WILL have a Repuke President. There is no doubt about that in my mind. Obama has to go so we can undo some (I'm not even dreaming of all) the damage he has done to the Democratic Party.

75. You have it exactly backwards
Why do you think the Pukes won the House? Was it because the House Dems didn't do enough for the middle class and the average joe? Hell no. The House passed over 400 good bills, Progressive bills that would have made a big difference in Americans' lives. It was the White House and the spinless turds in the Senate that failed to be bold enough. They won so many seats because the White House FAILED to enact policies that protect the middle class while at the same time went full speed ahead to bail out the big banks and the corporations --while standing idly by letting millions of American lose their homes to fraudulent foreclosure scams.

You need to pay attention to what actually happens and get out of your little bubble from time to time!

Do you think that if the White House had stopped capitulating and compromising and got down to business on bringing back the WPA to give millions of out of work Americans jobs that the House would have gone back to the Pukes?!? If you do you are sorely out of touch with reality. Obama failed us. We did not fail him. He needs to go so we can get the poor and middle class to vote FOR Democrats again.

If Obama is on the ticket I will guarantee you the Senate will go to the Pukes, the White House will have a Puke at the helm and the House will slide further into Puke hands. Period.

This place is morphing into the echo chamber the current, ungracious victors have always proclaimed they are working to prevent. Now there are few but the all-negative-all-the-time posters left and golly gee! It's so refreshing and wonderful here now!

Well, they've got their echo chamber and they've got one on their side who is apparently willing to make all 1000 donations per pledge drive if need be so hey, those who are actually Dems and support Dems can just leave and there will be only rejoicing.

I gotta say, I'm glad I was here in the early years and got out of this place all the best that was to be had. Including a friendship with you dear Cap'n! See you 'round the tubes, in places where we're welcome! :hi:

When Obama got elected and Prop 8 passed in California. Obama was blamed for not doing enough to stop it.

Then came the appointments of Summers and Geithner.

Oh ya...almost forgot about the Rick Warren fiasco. Then after his inauguration.. healthcare, Iraq, Afghanistan, drone attacks....I could go on.

Threads slamming Obama have been around since before he even stepped foot in office and have continued since.

33. I think of myself as fairly critical of Obama...
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 01:51 AM by BlueCheese
... but I wonder sometimes if we go a little too far in criticizing him.

But maybe we only do that among fellow travelers. It's still easy to defend him and the party when arguing with Republicans...

Just like I understand our country and its government has its flaws, but I still get irritated when I hear people from other places dumping on us.

36. They can say what they want
about our President. But any one who follows the meme is doing what is expected. Can't blame our President. but since he is the leader of the Democratic Party at this time, who else will they blame??? I am disappointed in the lack of support and the truth.

41. It's because those who had a tendancy
towards personally attacking posters (invariably the party loyalists) have been reined in and they can't use those tactics anymore. Further, many of them have/had only one mode of "debate" and, since that now break DU rules they'll either have to adapt or fade away/get tombstoned. So yes, I think those more timid posters who might not have posted criticism of Obama or any Democrat will be more likely to post. I've seen significant improvement on DU.

44. I'm not sure your description of "Democratic website"
is accurate. As per DU Rules:

Who We Are: Democratic Underground is an online community for Democrats and other progressives. Members are expected to be generally supportive of progressive ideals, and to support Democratic candidates for political office. Democratic Underground is not affiliated with the Democratic Party, and comments posted here are not representative of the Democratic Party or its candidates.

If people feel a Democrat is not "supportive of progressive ideals" they have every right to criticize and should. Truthful, healthy debate is essential in a healthy Democracy.

57. Yeah... we are all just Naderites... you'd like to believe that
but it isn't true. Keep attacking what is turning out to be a majority. Maybe it's time to respect those who have an issue with the Presidents policies and stop with the hyperbole.

64. you made a blanket statement
and it's not triumph... this isn't a game. You keep making assumptions of peoples' motives here, and imply that I'm part of it as if it were an agenda.

I will state this, I'm glad so many are fed up, because now I think there is a chance we can work for real change.

Anyway, I understand your frustration... with that, I'll just say peace.

49. You mean the hysteria about every OP'd
piece printed in any media that lapss its arms and claims that President Obama is going to do this that and the other thing, which usually turns out slanted or incorrect! Or the "Democrats" that are calling for the destruction of the Democrat, spelling used specifically, so that a nice Republican candidate can be elected and bring this country down even more?

66. You mean like "I keep running through the scenario that the President has actually lost his mind"?
That sort? "People" have been speaking up about President Obama since he was elected, since before he was elected. I find it a shame that it seems any time anyone posts anything positive that they are bashed and insulted. Yes, talk about what is going on but notice that it seems complaints and criticism go over much better than anyone saying anything positive.

Maybe that is the role of internet forums, to work on problems than talk about successes?

I don't find threads "I keep running through the scenario that the President has actually lost his mind, like a person who suddenly lost a loved one and continually denies her loss." particularly nice to see on GD.

87. Hmmmm?
"People are waking up to the reality that this president is not serving the Democratic party well."

Is this based on the number of threads or recs?

There was a time when Kucinich was a shoo-in for the Presidency, accordingly. Not anymore, he got five votes in one recent poll. Howard Dean is the new favorite. How long will that last?

many of the "moderates" and Obama loyalists on this site realize they are outnumbered and get hammered with these things called facts every time they put up some bullshit feel good thread about how we all need to be patient and get behind Obama.

I am glad to see this site becoming more "liberal" and less purely "democratic".
