Edited on Thu Dec-09-10 03:33 PM by pipi_k
this is way more admirable than a bunch of hackers going around disrupting things for others.

This guy stood alone. He exhibited bravery and honor in what he did.

hackers are bullies. They're anonymous and they work in packs.

fucking cowards compared to this guy.

Nobody should even consider sullying this man's bravery by comparing his acts to the underhanded and anonymous trashing those hackers are doing.

22. No...not being stupid wins wars
And who's pissing and moaning about their problems?

I'm saying that it's repulsive beyond belief to compare the honor and bravery of this one man with what those Wikileak hackers are doing. Anonymously. From the safety of their keyboards.

Even Julian Assange himself, who probably could, if he tried, could call off the dogs and fight this on his own just like that one guy in that photo.

But he won't. Which makes him as big a piece of shit as his "supporters" who are sitting around being disruptive little assholes.

23. Yeah, because, like, you know me so well
The fact of it is, I thought what he did was incredibly brave. I still do.

I think that anybody who takes on the "Powers that be" all by themselves is incredibly brave.

I do NOT think that people who threaten violence or mischief or mayhem done by their anonymous minions is brave.

And it's sad the distinction isn't seen clearly here.

20. Agreed. Pure silliness. Nothing's easier than sitting in your underpants
in your bedroom, clicking on the computer, thinking you'll never get caught. Putting your own body and life on the line by comparison--that is more courage than I'll ever have.

far away where nobody could hurt them.

Again...anybody who launches, or participates in, a cyberwar from the safety of his own living room or basement is a coward. With a capital "C".

24. Aww did your day get disrupted?
Did you have trouble with your credit cards? Try sitting in fucking jail on trumped up charges and then tell me again how it's the hackers who are the bullies. You just got a tax increase shoved down your throat, you just got a 2% reduction in SS shoved down your throat. You just sat back and watched while your president took from the poor and gave it to the rich. Tell me again who the bullies are?

You want to talk criminal acts by bullies? Well let's talk about Vietnam, or Iran-Contra or Panama, or Grenada, or Iraq or Afghanistan or Torture, or War Crimes.. the list is endless. They do it and laugh in our faces about how untouchable they are. I can't imagine why all these powerless people are cheering on people who are showing that we aren't as powerless as we think.

34. No, my day was just fine, thanks
Once again...

Hackers who sit anonymously in front of their computer screens causing havoc are cowards.

If Julian Assange wants to be an honorable man, he'll do what's right and fight just like anyone else who's ever had to fight alone something bigger than themselves.

5. If this is a reference to Assange, it's damaged thought-train
Nobody has decided he's breaking the law yet. Haven't designed a retroactive law yet to charge him.
I appreciate your sentiment, but we all need to be careful no to fall into the "guilty man fighting for right" meme.

Rather a union rule requiring each tablet be carried by an individual tablet bearer. Some of the boys had a "talk" with him, and let's just say Moses' tablet carrying days were over.

30. Tank Man was risking a very real possibility of immediate death.
Hundreds of protesters had been gunned down at that point, and I have to believe that most tank crews would have run him over without a second thought.

Julian Assange is risking a fine and possibly a brief prison sentence for trumped-up charges of sexual assault.

Tank Man was keeping an avenue of escape open for fleeing protesters, and in doing so saved the lives of thousands of young pro-democratic activists.

Julian Assange embarrassed a bunch of diplomats.

(And as for Anonymous? Good luck, they're behind seven proxies.)

39. Anybody else remember their anti-scientology stuff?
I was in SFO at that point and there were a ton of Guy Fawkes mask people parading around in front of Scientology centers. And getting harassed and photographed by scientologists. It didn't seem to have much effect in the end, though.
