A handful. One or two. Here and there. Maybe. If we're lucky. And if they're not preempted for some ball game.
DAMMIT!!! I've been saying FOR YEARS - WHERE the fuck are the rich liberals who could be buying radio stations? Putting a chain of them together in markets large, medium, and small, in which we could build a large progressive network TO GET THE MESSAGE OUT. And from there you've got your farm team that can move into television as well.
I remain totally convinced - the reason our side is doing so poorly is that we have no muscular, all-over-the-place, multi-headed PR machine cranking it out and having our backs. We have a scattered number of individuals here and there, a few NPR outlets. Yeah. Great. That's helpful. :sarcasm: What's the listenership? How bad or limited is the signal?
When that-guy-whose-name-rhymes-with-VANITY and limbaugh and beck and the rest of 'em have HUNDREDS of stations EACH, from coast-to-coast and Armed Forces Radio; When you have Talkers Magazine listing its annual "Heavy Hundred," and the VAST majority of talk show hosts around the country are still CONS, while every once in a while you see a lone progressive/liberal talker in there - but of course NOWHERE near the top-ten; When you have MSNBC putting on a few hours of prime time programming Monday through Thursday, more limited versions on Friday, and NOTHING on the weekends and virtually NOTHING in other dayparts except for occasional rants by the Young Turk, while on the other hand you have a CON-based 24/7/365 cable network (with a better and broader exposure package with most cable providers than MSNBC does) getting so much more extensive penetration, and EVERY day part, EVERY show, EVERY host, EVERY "reporter" and "anchor" and the wall-to-wall yakkers in prime time are ALL spouting the CON gospel;
Then you have an infrastructure in place to dominate and shape the public discourse. WHERE were our people when the bad guys on the other side were building, building, building, for the last 30-40 years (besides asleep at the wheel)?
Propaganda. PR. It's pretty much the whole ball game. Those who know how to do it will dominate the public discourse and frame the issues and paint everything their way, and influence the way the public thinks, decides, and votes. And our guys know next-to-NOTHING about any of this. (HINT: ANYBODY out there on our side consulting with, or encouraging or mentoring or "growing" people like George Lakoff?)
You have NO chance of winning or gaining any influence IF YOU AREN'T HEARD!!!!
Who's making all the noise, sucking up all the oxygen, getting all the attention, and gaining all the power?
