Least Slanted News Sources...??
Everyone knows the most slanted places..
But where do we go for straight news?
I mean the news in a reasonable order of importance, and a reasonable amount of news for each event.

I don't know,.. oh NYT sometimes.
.Like now, there is the story of Clinton supporting Obama's tax cut program..
Right below that is Sanders filibustering in the Senate..fairly even..
Of course, Sanders is not getting equal treatment at MSNBC, and other news sources..

So, where are stories presented fairly, with equal treatment of different takes on that story, and good and correct coverage too?
And if there is a mistake,,they are willing to correct that openly and honestly?
ok..your input please..
Thanks

Edited on Fri Dec-10-10 06:31 PM by walldude
I was in Oslo on business last year and while I was there I watched a few hours of BBC news. It was amazing. I had forgotten what real news is. I now use their website for my non opinion news...

3. If you want a balanced view you're better off looking at multiple news sources.
Edited on Fri Dec-10-10 06:37 PM by Spider Jerusalem
Newspaper sites are almost invariably better than TV news network sites; of US newspapers, I'd say the New York Times and Washington Post are the best. Non-US: the BBC is quite balanced generally although not as in depth on coverage of US news, and the Guardian (which tends to be politically centre-left overall but has a fairly diverse range of opinion pieces from both ends of the political spectrum).

4. I find that Al Jazeera, RT and NHK simply report stories.
They seem to assume that even the average American is able to process information without being told what to think of it.

BBC and PBS are good too.

5. I think RT is pretty slanted
But I find them really interesting. I watch it a lot - I like how they often expose the surveillance state the we live in - cameras everywhere, police everywhere.

On the other hand, they have had Alex Jones and other disturbed people on talking about American politics way too many times for me to think they are neutral.

Responding to the OP, I have NPR on a lot. Lots of people complain that it's not as good as it used to be - I don't know, I was only turned on to it about a year or so ago. I'm not really looking for a "liberal" sources of news. I listen to NPR a lot, and I read columnists online and listen to some opinion oriented podcasts, some that I agree with and some that I disagree with. The overall effect of that is "balanced". But like others said, if you're only relying on one source for your information, you're probably not getting the whole picture.

They have english language news shows here , you can typically find them on a public access channel of some sort either over the air or on cable.

It's pretty interesting watching these foreign news shows, It's really interesting to see America from the outside - and, if nothing else, when they say stuff that you know isn't true about America (or, dumbed-down - it's usually not malicious or anything), it helps train yourself to recognize untruths (or dumb-downs) in our own media. And some of them are legitimately good as well.

13. news.google.com
They have software acting as editors, to avoid story bias. They basically aggregate other media, so if you want 4 takes on a story, you can get to them in a click.

16. Here:
http://news.google.com/news/more?pz=1&cf=all&cf=all&ncl=dUNPIMyFUacnQ_M77yqF4fe2GsanM

They have 308 articles on the Sanders speech (They have several Sanders stories).

You may think that shows bias on google's part, I tend to think it reflects bias on the part of NYT to put it in the top headlines... It's classic Bernie, but nothing I would consider news-worthy.

Ironic that it's in a rotten Middle East dictatorship.

18. I remember in the 60s at the U of I.. I read a book that I cannot
remember...about this idea of fair and even handed news.
The author comapred news coverage of the 1956 election of Eisenhower vs Stevenson..everything was considered, column inches, placement, size of pictures..location of
pictures etc..

At that time..(so I really don't know today) the New York Times gave exactly the same coverage to both candidates.
Even type of pictures and poses were included. I remember the author saying for that kind of equal coverage, it took a whole lot of effort to be fair and even handed.

In that study, the Chicago Tribune was also rated, and it had given twice the amount of coverage to Eisenhower as to Stevenson

Funny what a person remembers from 43 years ago..
