Death by dog leash: Mark Madoff hangs himself with leash while child sleeps.
From Bernie Madoff's son Mark hangs himself with dog leash in SoHo apartment, sources say
The son of disgraced Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff was found dead inside his Manhattan apartment early Saturday morning, sources said.

Mark Madoff, 46, was found dead inside his Mercer St. home by his father-in-law around 7:30 a.m. and called 911, sources said. The father-in-law told dispatchers that Mark Madoff was hanging from a dog leash, according to the sources.

His two-year-old son was asleep in another room, sources said.

Mark Madoff had been chatting via computer with his wife, Stephanie, who is out of town, sources said. She became worried and called her father to check on her husband.

4. What a conclusion that ignores everything else - such as turning in your father,
being unable to find a job because of your last name, being treated as guilty of a horrendous crime whether you are or not.

9. I wasn't necessarily saying HIS thirst for wealth, but rather the fallout from his
father's. It says Mark and his brother haven't spoken to their father or mother in two years. He's another victim.

8. Killing one's self in the way he dd seemed supremely selfish and self-centered.
I think it is more reasonable to assume that he feared losing his wealth and/or facing jail time like his scumbag father.

11. The Wealthy's worst fear, it appears -is to become poor
Selfish and self centered, shallow and pretentious- it appears they would rather die than live with less. And the elites have the nerve to call the average man stupid and and without value to society?

12.  Eddie Murphy's character in "Trading Places" was right when he said:
"You know, it occurs to me that the best way you hurt rich people is by turning them into poor people."

Never forgot that line. It's about as true as it gets.

Seriously, I know any number of people who, if they came into phenomenal wealth honestly, would find a bazillion good uses for it. In my fantasies, I've already named my animal rescue organization, spent some time at Best Friends learning how they operate, transplanted it to other parts of the country, etc. And a lot of people have occasionally posted on DU with similar fantasies...down to the Best Friends training, lol)

a case of Autoerotic asphyxiation. Its usually not pre-arranged & death it happens by accident.

15. Normally that's not an unusual presumption but the article makes it clear that....
...his wife became concerned after instant messaging with him and sent her father over to check on the situation. In every case of auto-erotic asphyxiation I've heard of, the body was always discovered by accident, the victim not intending to die during the process and therefor not giving any clue for others to follow up on.

18. A member of a rich family, charged with a 65 Billion dollar Ponzi scheme...
...hangs himself in his luxurious apartment with a dog leash while his child sleeps.

That's newsworthy, if your comment is about the newsworthiness of this post.

If I'm reading your comment right, you're upset that a story like this takes focus away from more important issues. Ichingcarpenter, as odd as it may sound, I absolutely agree. I, myself, lament the chaotic nature of DU. Again, as odd as it may sound, before I made this post I was actually lamenting that posts by KPete, for instance, don't get as much focus as they should. I don't always respond to posts but I almost always REC them.

Again, though, this is news in its own right. DU is set up in such a way, forum-wise (as you are probably already painfully aware) that General Discussion is both the most important forum on DU in regards to visibility for the membership and also a kind of catch-all for serious news items, of varying levels of importance, which still do not belong in the Lounge.

For a longer period, but definitely in the last few months, I've noticed how the cable news cycle (which is mostly a fraudulent attention/distraction machine) drives a lot of posts at DU- which is no fault of the DU posters, but how some posters really harp on less important issues more than others. The funny thing is, again if I'm reading your post correctly, kind of being accused of the same thing.

I don't know what to say, though. Again, this is a very newsworthy issue. Will it dominate DU for any length of time? I doubt it. Not like the deeper issues, like the issue you're speaking about. And in that way, at least some relative perspective is apparent.

21. Thank you for your calm response
I live on another continent now but that doesn't
let me not observe on what is going on in my beloved country.

It was news worthy but others had posted it first
and then another, then another when rage was going on
on what's happening. Its seemed as misdirection.

This guy is now the FALL GUY for the whole bullshit?

I call that misdirection.

He and his brother for around $500 million of ill-gotten gains to be clawed back into the fund for the victims.
