Bernie Sanders asked me, so I did it
Senator Bernie Sanders pleaded with all of us to write out Congresscritters and tell them to stand up for the middle class.

Well I just sent off my email to both my Senators and my Representative. All 3 are Dems. Have you? Here's what I said:

to my senators:

Sir...

I am writing you to express my disgust at the current Tax/Unemployment Bill that will be voted on by members of both houses in the coming week.

The bill is an affront to all decent, hard working VOTERS who are trying to make ends meet, heat their homes, feed their families, go to the doctor and just basically LIVE in this mess of an economy over which the Democrats have allowed the Republicans to throttle the American people.

Your most illustrious and distinguished colleague from Vermont, Senator Bernie Sanders, spent 8 hours making an impassioned plea and going on the record with his objections to it. Funny, I didn't see you anywhere in that chamber on Friday. Why was that? It would appear by your absence and silence that you agree with what is going to be foisted upon the American people and the people of ___________(my state here). Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Mary Landrieu of Louisiana made their voices heard.

Why are you quiet, Sir? Why were you not speaking up for the working people and the middle class in the well of the Senate on Friday? Are our pockets not deep enough for your attention?

Your vote will be watched very closely. From this vote and this vote alone, I will make my decision on where to cast my support and my vote when your turn for re-election comes around.

Look deeply inside your conscience, Sir. Be on the right side of history when this all falls out in experience over time. Our country is at stake.

please do not add my email address to your mass mailing list unless you vote to let the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans expire and extend them for folks making less than $250k. Also, please do not vote to reduce the payroll tax (aka "payday loan tax") or for changing/decreasing the Estate Tax for the wealthiest of the wealthiest of the wealthy Americans.

The most illustrious and distinguished Senator from Vermont, Bernie Sanders, spent 8 hours making an impassioned plea from the floor of the Senate on Friday and went on the record with his objections to it. Will there be anyone in the House of Representatives who will steel their spine and speak out in such a fashion when the time comes?

Will you remain quiet and sell out the middle class with your vote to enrich further those who are causing "camels to fly through eyes of needles", Sir? Will you be speaking up for the working people and the middle class in the well of the Senate on Friday? Or are our pockets not deep enough for your attention?

Your vote will be watched very closely. From this vote and this vote alone, I will make my decision on where to cast my support and my vote when your turn for re-election comes around.

What have you written to your congresscritter?

2. I did the same to all three of my rep's. This is most important because...

until I read a newspaper article yesterday about Mary Landrieu's stance, I was more inclined to think minds were made up -- not so. She asked that her constituents contact her about their thoughts, that she had not yet decided how she'll be voting. However, she did state in the article that it was morally wrong & also mentioned the fact that, while troops were given a meager cost-of-living raise, they are the ones risking their lives & coming home with missing limbs; to give such a huge tax cuts to the super wealthy while this country is depleting its Treasury on two wars is unconscionable.

So, taking her lead, I praised her for her stance, then commented about the two wars. This country should stop both wars & spend thar money at home where it's desperately needed. To have this country's leaders to decide to borrow hundreds of billions, plus interest, on top of a $13.8 trillion deficit for tax cuts for the super wealthy is not sound judgment or fiscally responsible.

With Vitter, I told him the same thing, but started off with simething like, "I'm not a big corporation or a member of the super wealthy class, but I'm registering how I feel, anyway, about the Obama-Republican tax deal..."

/edit: I left my post before finishing it due to a phone call. Sorry.

10. thank you for your recommendation!
this is too important to ignore, you know?

Bernie stood in the gap for all of us on Friday. This is the least I can do to show my appreciation for his courage and spine.

7. I called both of my Senators AND my Rep............
earlier this week and left messages for all three. It boiled down to a single question, "Whose side are you on?". Cooper REALLY pisses me off. I didn't expect ANYTHING positive from Corker and Alexander, but Cooper I thought MIGHT have been reachable. Unfortunately, no. He sent me a "form" email saying that he had always believed that we needed to get the deficit under control. In his second paragraph, he said that he didn't think we should raise taxes on anybody during a recession.

IOW, he talks a good game RE: deficits, but he's not serious about it. REALLY disappointing.

17. Who is going to stand up for poor people, Bernie?
"and tell them to stand up for the middle class. "

It really would be nice to be considered part of the country again.
