for Eleny -- Back Tab (or Hidden Tab) curtains
I just got my back tab panels and wanted to show how they were done and how they look hanging. I didn't iron the panels and I expect them to look much better after I either iron or tumble the wrinkles out of them

1. Thanks so much!
I read the instructions at the url you posted last night. But these pictures are so helpful!

I wasn't sure how high they were sewn onto the back and can see that they go all the way to the top - In fact, sewn into the seam itself. So I can try folding the tabs back on my curtains and stitch them down with a hem stitch. If I do a few I'll be able to tell if it looks okay with my fudging technique.

You have some nice drapes there. They look well with the natural woodwork. I'm lazy when it comes to ironing draperies. The dryer technique is right up my alley.

It must feel so good to have the room complete with the drapes.

2. actually these are going back, not enough color and contrast
Edited on Thu Jan-15-09 07:41 PM by AZDemDist6
I ordered only two panels of different colors (actually 3, but I didn't bring the 3rd color home even) so only one window has the new panels on it.

I need the drapes to bring a splash of color in here

I'm looking at a plaid from Target maybe

4. Good for you ... Those horizontal stripes are so contemporary.
Those have similar colors to my plaid floor length unlined tabs in this office. I'm sure I found them at Target, too. I've found so much there over the years.

Those are subtle but still colorful. Even the solid drapes looked good. :D

6. Mr K is concerned a plaid might 'fight' the art
Edited on Thu Jan-15-09 08:14 PM by AZDemDist6
but I think these colors might work

here's the art, just for reference

and the curtain again (I"m doing this to help me visualize too LOL)

edit to add, CRAP!!! there is NO red in the art

I fear Mr K is correct on these

7. Okay, chill out girl!
The art and the drapes go well together. You don't need them to be completely coordinated with all the same colors - if that's what concerns you. From these photos I think they look great together.

Okay, so it's a tassel lover who's giving you this advice. But seriously, it all looks great.

I was going to post pics of my plaid curtain pattern and the rug I ordered last night. But you might never read my advice postings ever again. I just know the room will be fun.

Remember those pictures of the 1950s room with the battling barkcloth upholstered furniture and all? We could learn a little from our mom's era. So long as we love it - mix it up.

9. Here's my new rug
I ordered 3'6" x 5'9"

See, it's not so hard. I know you'll love your rooms. Trust yourself and have fun!

Maybe they have a thrift shop in the big town, too? That might help to settle you down.

10. with your yellow rooms how cute is that???
I love it

hubby would never let me go that 'fun' I'm lucky he is open to a color splash via drapes but this is the guy who didn't want ANY color in AZ five years ago. Remember the fight I had to convince him to paint the kitchen over there in that lovely gray?

I think that rug is as cute as can be and in your office with yellow walls it will be just the touch of whimsy to lighten up all that tech gear that an office always has

11. And with plaid drapes it should be interesting if nothing else

I have to make a lampshade cover for one of the thrift shop lamps. So I'll find some solid colored fabric. Using the rule of three, it should work. I have one extra plaid curtain but that would be too matchy matchy. So solid it will be. I'm leaning toward a soft red since it's in both the curtains and the rug.

I didn't know you had to debate the kitchen paint back in AZ. That's a great kitchen. I bet the new people never changed the wall color.

12. debate?? no.....
more a "Honey I think gray would be great"

"NO, are you crazy??"

three days later "Sweetie, you know gray in here would be so sophisticated"

"What?? on that gray kick again?? get over it already!"

a week later "You know hon, I'm thinking a blue steel in here would really work"

"Blue steel??? isn't that a gray?? NO WAY"

at the paint store two weeks later "I'm just gonna grab these 4 color cards, just for fun"

"OK, but they'll be awful, but if it makes you happy"

one day a week later while he was away, I paint half of one wall in the color and he come home and looks and says "Well, actually that might work after all"

14. I swear to god there must be a script somewhere that we all use
Some of my suggestions have been greeted with rude sounds originating from the back of his throat. But that's when my resolve really gets going.

He's talked me out of some bad decisions, to be fair. But more material-wise rather than colors.

The most fun we had was deciding on roofing. I wanted charcoal gray flecked with colors. He wanted the lightest gray to reflect the heat of the sun. On a house with white siding? Nyet. We drove all over looking at roofs and decided on green with earth tone flecks. Reminded me of that HGTV show, "Designing for the Sexes".

13. and I gotta tell you this story too
Edited on Thu Jan-15-09 09:14 PM by AZDemDist6
I knew what color I wanted in here. so i go get a bunch of color cards and live with them for MONTHS

then I go get a quart of a tester color when we had a wall in the hall ready to take paint

I hated it

Mr. K says "it's close enough, just buy some paint and if we hate it we can always repaint"

:banghead: I don't want my house torn up TWICE!!! ferdawgsake...

so I go get a couple more testers (at $6 a pop mind you) and he says "Those both look good, pick one" and I'm like "yuck!, I need to try this color and this color" and he says "geez woman, pick a color already, we're spending a fortune on testers"

but I'm not gonna settle, so 4 testers later I put up this color and as I stand in the hall putting it on I say "Wow, I think this one will work!!!" and from the other room I hear

"Finally!!! now go buy some damned paint already"

16. Bottom line is that you do have to live with it at least for a while
So it's good you tried out a bunch. Funny scenes at your house over time!

You'd get a kick out of the movie "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House" with Cary Grant and Myrna Loy. Check out this scene on YouTube - all about paint colors. One of our favorite scenes that hubby recalls whenever we paint.

I think you'd really enjoy it since you've done a bunch in your homes. Or get a kick out of the YouTube clips. Many fun moments.

22. We had just about finished remodelling the bathroom in our last house,
and it was pretty much down to the paint. I KNEW EXACTLY what I wanted. A warm medium grey. I took a LOT of trips to the store to get it adjusted & fiddled & mixed just exxxxactly right. Ahhhh... it was on the walls and I was thrilled with the warm grey with white tiles and white trim.

Husband looked perplexed. He said "Why did we paint it?" I said "What are you talking about?!" He said "It is exactly the color of the sheetrock paper." Ya know, it was!

I was considering making hidden tab panels for two rooms in my house but I've never had them so was sure how they'd look installed. I like it!

21. I just ended up with tab tops for the drapes
the ones in the pics got returned today and I found a suede strip I like ALOT

I didn't want tab tops though, these have a rod pocket for the hem, so I'm flipping them over and sewing the tab tops down as weigh on the hem

these are the drapes and they're just what we I was looking for

poor hubby is at the point of "Fine honey, if you like them that's great"
