In all my years as a LEO traffic was the worst duty. It is unforgiving and not rewarding. I would have rather spent my time going after real criminals.
Working in a large city you have to take on the most offensive and dangerous drivers. Meanwhile you have to turn a blind eye on the average Joe who is just driving too fast, turns without signaling or doesn't come to a complete stop when required. In the country it is different. If an officer has a lot of time on his hands and little traffic to monitor then they can be a little over eager to stop someone who is simply not paying attention.
I would have rather chased bank robbers or catch burglars than risk my neck stopping Joe Sixpack on his way home or from work. But then we have a real problem with DUIs and if someone is driving dangerously and draws our attention we have to check it out. I would usually make a quick assessment and if I determined that the stop was not a drunk, just some poor guy in a hurry to get home, I'd let them go with a warning.
It is easy to ride too fast on a motorcycle. I have to check myself all the time now that I'm retired because I know how easy it is to cruise at 85 when the speed limit is 70.
One thing you said, and I'm using ex-cop thinking now, is "I wasn't putting anyone in danger." The cop is concerned about your safety too. If your driving was hazardous to your health then maybe they did you a favor by slowing you down. Personally, I don't think 58 mph is very dangerous. . . except maybe in the parking lot of Home Depot.
