US Nobel Laureates at Havana Economists Conference

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 26 (acn) US Nobel laureates for Economy Robert Mundell, Robert Engle and Edmund Phelps will participate at the 11th International Encounter of Economists on Globalization and Development Problems, scheduled for next March 2 -6 in this capital city.

The three Nobel laureates will give key lectures during the conference's plenary sessions at Havana's convention Palace.

Robert Mundell, who received the Nobel Prize in 1999, will address the financial crisis and international monetary systems. Engle (Nobel Laureate in2003) will talk about financial volatility, and Phelps (2007) will be addressing the issue of altruism and social responsibility.

The international economic crisis will be at the center of debates by some 1,500 professionals from over 50 countries, during the conference.

Other personalities scheduled to attend the international encounter are Honduras' President Manuel Zelaya Rosales and Monsignor Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, Bishop-Foreign Secretary of the Vatican's Science Academy. Also expected is the presence of Samir Amin, president of the Third World Forum and representatives of the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the World Trade Organization.
