Petition to nominate Honduran Resistance for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize

(My translation of somewhat stilted announcement in Spanish)

Gathering of signatures to award the National Front Movement against the coup d' etat in Honduras the Nobel Peace Prize. It deserves it for the effort, (which is) still facing repression, to control any (acts) that implies the most minimum violence. We are aware that the violence that has occurred has been the work of infiltrators. We were able to observe the care leaders of the Front (have taken) to avoid confrontations. (This) campaign, should it not result in the prize, at least will service to make visible this peaceful struggle.

To: Premio Nobel

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

1. Thank you, rabs, You might consider adding this to any ongoing Honduras thread in LBN, too.
Just a suggestion.

I'm sure there are numerous people there who would be very interested in signing.

3. This is mostly a symbolic nomination

to call attention to the resistance movement.

It is too late for any meaningful consideration because the Peace Prize announcement will be made this Friday. There are 205 nominations for this year's prize.

Think the resistance will be honored in other ways when the golpista regime is ousted.

4. Signed it! To honor the Honduran peoples' amazing peaceful civil resistance movement!
Though the award is pending--and I greatly hope that Colombia's Senator Cordoba wins it--that incredibly brave and visionary woman!--to help end Colombia's 40+ year civil war--perhaps this petition will get the Honduran resistance movement a future nomination, and will hearten the people there with many thousands of signatures in support (and admiration!).

It seems that wherever the righwing goes, there goes brutal repression and death. These two situations--Colombia and Honduras--say it all. This is why Latin America has elected leftist leaders all over South America and, thus far, in about half of Central America. Latin Americans are fed up with rightwing violence, greed and US domination in support of both.
