Medical Education Cooperation with Cuba - Conference US Citizens can attend in November
-- possibly of interest to Mika or others who want to travel to Cuba legally in November.

---------------------------------------------
Please find and circulate the attached information to any interested
colleagues regarding an upcoming Global Health Conference in Havana, Cuba,
November 16-20, 2009. Under current U.S. regulations, this event is legal
for U.S. participants to attend. Information about the meeting is below.
Attached are additional conference details, logistical information and
flight schedules.

The Global Forum for Health Research is pleased to announce that its 2009
annual Forum will take place in Havana, Cuba from 16-20 November 2009 at the invitation of the Ministry of Health. "Innovating for the health of all" will focus on policies, incentives and new approaches to strengthen both social and technological innovation for health and health equity.

Forum 2009 will bring together some 800 decision-makers in funding, research
and policy to engage in dialogue, highlight lessons learned from experience
and identify pathways to solutions. You will have the opportunity to network
with participants from health- and science-related ministries, research
institutions and academia, development agencies and foundations,
nongovernmental organizations, civil society, the private sector and the
media.

Innovation for health encompasses the entire process from the generation of
new ideas, to their transformation into something useful, to their
implementation. It can lead to new and more cost-effective services,
products, methods, management practices and policies to improve health
outcomes. You will be able to learn about and discuss topics such as
building effective national health innovation systems, social
entrepreneurship for health, product development for neglected diseases,
eHealth, knowledge translation platforms, donor-country harmonization and
coherence, innovative financing strategies, and "innovation indicators" for
developing countries.

Forum 2009 aims to improve understanding both of social and technological
innovation in the global health community and of policies that create a
conducive environment for innovation to improve health and health equity.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Heidi Knuff

1. FYI, Florida's dept of professional regulation bans regulated professionals from going to Cuba.

Dentistry is a state regulated profession. A couple of years ago the fascists in Tallahassee started doing foreign policy too - when it come to screwing with Cuba (and Fl professionals who want to go to learn or teach).

Part of the git-tough on Castro insanity that poses as American political representation.

I could lose my state DPR license, and could no longer practice.

Nice, huh?

Thanks for the post, and the kind consideration. :hi:

2. Does the General License possibly override that?
If you did research in a related field, but not your designated field?
I know it's probably not worth it.. you'd have to hire a lawyer!

What a shame, I hope that regulation gets zapped asap.

Maybe Alan Grayson could do something about it!

3. Too bad there isn't some other research that we could do in November.
Do either of you know if Cuba trains psychologists (aka, community mental health counselors)?
