Cuba says Castro video game tries to legitimise murder

Cuba has condemned the release of a new video game in which United States special forces try to kill a young Fidel Castro.

State-run media said the game, Call of Duty: Black Ops, attempted to legitimise murder and assassination in the name of entertainment.

The Cubadebate website said it would also turn American children into sociopaths.

It is expected to be one of the biggest selling video games of the year

The BBC correspondent in Havana, Michael Voss, says Cubadebate takes a dig at all the failed real life attempts to kill Cuba's former president.

1. Judi, you beat me by about 4-5 minutes.

I have seen the TV promo and it is uber-violent. A Telesur article that I read earlier says that the video also calls for killing Hugo Chavez ("a power-hungry tyrant" so as to "assure the United States of Venezuela's petroleum."

Re the headling on the article: Shouldn't it be "U.S. video game" instead of "Castro video game?" Sloppy headline writing.

2. Sure is sloppy. Looks like they were trying to muffle the impact of where this crap is made.
Amazing how every possible opening which can be used for fascist propaganda is always eventually exploited, isn't it? This is simply putrid, cheap, underhanded. They hope to influence those who've not learned anything yet. Raw, emotional ignorance can be channeled for all kinds of dirty purposes.

Clumsy, rotten headline, definitely.

3. The observation by Uruguayan author Eduardo Galeano

is most apt in this case.

---------------------

But the end justifies the means for a society such as the North American. As Eduardo Galeano says ... "as is known, violence engenders violence: but it also engenders profits for the industry of violence, which sells it as entertainment and converts it into an object of consumption."

----------------

You will remember that Obama was presented with Galeano's well-known book "Open veins of Latin America" by Hugo Chavez at the Americas summit last year.

If , which they wouldn't do anyway , Cuba got a Chinese company to manufacture a similar game based on killing the young Obama can you just imagine the outcry it would cause.

5. Big deal. A US congress member called for Castro's assassination.
Then lied about saying it. Lied some more. Lied again. Then.... admitted saying it.

How can an elected Congresswoman encourage assassinations?

The game sounds like a retro tropical version of the Terminator movies and video games. :dunce:
