Journalists celebrate their day and report attacks on their profession

With varying acts, among which included a mass at the Santa Ana church and a procession to the Manuel Amador Guerrero cemetery, journalists celebrated the national day dedicated to this profession in Panama.

During the activities of National Journalism Day, the journalists paid tribute to Gaspar Octavio Hernández, a Panamanian who died doing his job as a journalist on Nov. 13, 1918.

Amid the events, organized by the National Association of Journalists and the Union of Journalists of Panama, participants also recalled the recent attacks on freedom of expression in Panama.

In fact, in the last 66th Assembly of the Inter-American Press Association (IAPA), members discussed the case of Panama, which included a condemnation of Corporación La Prensa, the sentences against journalists Sabrina Bacal and Justino González, and the 19-day imprisonment of journalist Carlos Núñez.
