Game Change, page 375
Remember this one from 08?

Game Change p. 375 (the week after McCain selected Palin):

"...When (Valerie) Jarrett informed him of a series of meetings she'd had in New York with frantic Democrats in that first week after the conventions, Obama said "Just tell them to calm down."

A couple of days later, Jarrett received a viral email that pictured Obama staring forward sternly and pointing in the direction of the camera. Above his head were the words "EVERYONE CHILL THE FUCK OUT," and below that, the message "I GOT THIS!" She forwarded it to Obama.

"That's what I was trying to tell you!" Obama replied.

:D

5. Yeah, but unlike the campaign...
it's just not about Obama, his success depends on his legislative achievements which can only be given to him through congress. If it was just about him then I would gladly chill!

11. No argument.....
on that intellectual beating, that in deed was a thing of beauty. My point above was that in the end he still needs congress to pass his legislation to be successful. Seeing how dysfunctional they all are does not give me that chill feeling. If he could do this all on his own I would have no worries.

3. I remember that week vividly..
Mostly because I had a 48-hour anxiety attack almost immediately after the Palin selection.

I relaxed after Palin made it crystal clear that she was a dumb-ass. I don't remember specifically, but I bet that image helped too.

10. The day it was announced, a Dem friend of mine at work was
worried. After less than 30 minutes of Googling, I bet him $50 that by the end of the campaign she would prove more of a liability than an assest.

When he came to pay up, I told him to just donate it to his favorite charity in my name. :)

6. Nah, it originally came from a place called "Political Soup" or something like that.
It's a picture site, like "Picture is unrelated". Anyway, it came from a contributor there. Great pic tho!

31. Can you really picture a white person being depicted yelling,....
"Everyone chill the fuck out! I got this!" That just doesn't pass the laugh test.

34. The Obama pic makes me laugh, which is one reason I like it. It's a tension-breaker.
To me, it's like those old movie scenes where all is in crisis and some hysterical woman keeps screaming until the manly hero slaps her across the face and she gasps and is silent so he can get on with being the manly hero and saving everybody's butts (I DO NOT endorse face-slapping -- I refer to a well-known theatrical cliche that has devolved into parody).

IIRC during the campaign leading up to the election, parts of DU were definitely hysterical. Then this pic appeared. It made me laugh out loud, and it cheered me up. I think it cheered a lot of people up.

Oh yes, I can picture a white man doing this -- except for the profanity (which was censored), in all the really old movies it *was* the white man. Past tense, right? But still there on Turner Classic Movies. (Showing my age again.)

This is Obama. This is our President. I really like the guy. And I love this pic. :D

Hekate

Unlike the very white Sylvester Stallone in Rocky I and II etc. Yo Adrienne. Yo Paulie, yo yo yo all over the place. Don't see anything black in that nor in "Everyone Chill the fuck out..."

Do they read their emergencies properly or is everything assumed to be a situation that will be ok.

27. IF you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs ....
This pic reminds me of this Kipling poem.
IF.....
IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Rudyard Kipling

Edited on Wed Feb-03-10 12:40 PM by LatteLibertine
President Obama are folks who expect him to do it alone, and other Democrats who only care for their careers or short term politics. We need to make it painfully obvious to Washington we support him. The opportunists among the party will fall in line if they perceive enough public support on an issue. The same may often be said about those who only want to "play it safe". Those that undermine the party (and country) at every turn because they are being well compensated by special interests need to be voted out when possible.

It certainly is possible to support President Obama yet work to change some ideas within specific reforms you may not like. Just keep it positive.
