3. It was great ...
I'd like to watch it again on PBS, when it's edited. There were a few confusing moments. (What happened with Bob Dylan there?). The highlight, or one of them, had to be Smokey Robinson singing Abraham, Martin, and John.

6. Oh that was the name of the song? I had a Bush moment then.
Frenchiecat had said that and I thought she was responding to when Smokey said fallen heroes so I said don't forget Malcolm, as in Malcolm X. Oy....:(

7. Shit. I dunno. "Times" was absolutely divine...
Thought he was about to do another tune but then he didn't. It was an odd moment.

5. It was this one - "Lift Every Voice and Sing". Rebroadcast on PBS Thursday night.
The first verse is the one most commonly heard.

Lift Every Voice and Sing

Lift every voice and sing,
'Til earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the listening skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us;
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
Let us march on 'til victory is won.

Stony the road we trod,
Bitter the chast'ning rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
Yet with a steady beat,
Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,
Out from the gloomy past,
'Til now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

God of our weary years,
God of our silent tears,
Thou who has brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who has by Thy might
Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee,
Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;
Shadowed beneath Thy hand,
May we forever stand,
True to our God,
True to our native land.

14. I went to all black schools up until I started college. I remember singing that song
at every single assembly we had in every school I attended through high school.

At the time, it was just a song. But as I got older, it took on a much more profound meaning.

16. Oh that's a great idea. You need to suggest it to the White House, I love it!!
Your idea sounds like something MTV would eat up and abuse. Now turned into something worthwhile and rich now that the President did it.

21. i thought it was very good.
It'sone of those boisterous voices. Not out of tune but it's not like he'll ever reach a high note. It's like a guy singing normally but in tune. And he was having fun, he was dancing a bit up to the stage and then he was dancing and then lead off the singing. I was a bit surrprised by all that.

inspirations for the movement music. I watched it stream live and it's definitely worth watching.
