Bush administration read the Shoe Bomber his Miranda rights FOUR TIMES (Politico)
Edited on Wed Feb-10-10 12:44 PM by ohiodemocratic
Did you guys remember hearing any conservative protesting about the fact that the shoe bomber was read his miranda rights? I don't.

Pardon me if this has been posted previously, but it's important to stress it:

POLITICO, 2-2-2010: "Republicans may have a hard time keeping up their talking point about how reading Miranda rights to the Christmas Day bomber represented a dangerous new direction under President Barack Obama.

It turns out that that back in December 2001, Richard Reid — the “shoe bomber” — was read or reminded of his Miranda rights four times in two days, beginning five minutes after being taken into custody.

Furthermore, the Bush administration specifically rejected the idea of a military tribunal — another step that Republicans have argued should have been taken in the case of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who tried to bring down Northwest Flight 253 over Detroit on Christmas Day and was read his rights after 50 minutes of FBI questioning. 1. It's important that this be shouted from rooftops

Especially since Gingrich is spreading the lie that Reid is an American citizen. I saw him assert that last night on The Daily Show and wondered why someone in the audience didn't shout, "You lie!". So more people need to be informed.

P.S. Welcome to DU! :hi:

2. Just watched Herr GingRICH on The Daily Show try to claim
that shoebomber was an American. You lie!

The whole argument is stupid. Law enforcement personal are trained to give Miranda rights. Nit wit conservatives now expect what? Who gets to choose who gets Miranda rights or not? Did they call Obama and ask if they should give the rights? It's procedure, you nincompoops. They never think anything through. Witless knee jerk reactionaries.

5. Rethugs tantrum and obfuscate to deflect from real issues. It's what one does w/o facts, their m.o.
It's their karma, too bad people suffer as a consequence. If they suffered, would they be as likely to do it?
