Menendez Wants Ellsworth For Bayh Seat
DSCC chair Bob Menendez on Wednesday voiced strong support for Rep. Brad Ellsworth (D-IN), one of the likely contenders to replace Sen. Evan Bayh (D) on the ballot, even as other top Dems are considering throwing their hats into the ring.

"It seems to me that Cong. Ellsworth is going to be a great candidate," Menendez said during a breakfast with reporters sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor.

Ellsworth did not file for re-election to his House seat -- something Menendez said "speaks volumes" about his intentions to run for Bayh's seat. Other lesser-known contenders, like Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott (D) and '92 nominee/ex-Sec/State Joe Hogsett (D), are either still running or are keeping their options open.

Rep. Baron Hill (D) has not decided whether he will make a race either. Hill told the Louisville Courier-Journal he is "open to the idea. It doesn't mean that I'm going to do it."

1. Not McDermott
McDermott is an ex-republican who changed parties to run against Dedelow

McDermott is less a Democrat than Evan Bayh

2. Ellsworth is also less of a Democrat than Evan Bayh
I was trying to get an idea about this McDermott. I know his dad was a Republican when he was mayor. I know that his dad has questionable issue regarding his property and whether he was paying and/or paying the proper amount. It also appears that there is an issue of how he acquired the property. Why is he living in Crown Point instead of Hammond?

I see that he voted in the Republican primary in 2002 and the Democratic primary in 2003. He would had to have run in 2003 and been on the ballot in the primary. Who allowed his name to be on the ballot when he had voted in the Republican primary in the previous election? There is no voting history of Jr prior to 2002 when he was 33 years old.

Was it his dad or he that received the Sagamore of the Wabash award? If he why does a Republican Governor give the award to a guy like him who is supposedly a Democrat?
