Apparently "Winning By Capitulation" Is Our New Democratic Slogan!
Edited on Thu Feb-25-10 10:03 AM by saracat
Combined with our publicly stated endorsement of bipartisanship and the intention of being open to adopt yet more GOP HCR provisions by both Tim Kaine and the WH, combined with the following news, it seems our new slogan is well under way!:sarcasm:

Obama May Compromise On Consumer Protection Agency, Speculative Investments Limit (WP)

4. This is taking the statement

8. Thank you.
I'm really getting tired of the compromising and not sure I want the current Treasury Department housing any consumer regulations. Sorry I just don't trust their teeth anymore.

9. Democrats retreat on new privacy protections link

AP story

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2010/02/25/national/w000802S67.DTL

Lacking the necessary 60-vote supermajority, Democratic leaders settled on a one-year extension of expiring surveillance and seizure provisions of the USA Patriot Act.

They tossed aside curbs — and greater scrutiny — on government authority agreed to by the Senate Judiciary Committee in October after spirited debate...

...The Democratic retreat is an important political victory for Republicans, who gained new ammunition for their election theme that the GOP can better protect America. The outcome is a major disappointment for Democrats and their liberal allies, like the American Civil Liberties Union and supporters who believe the Patriot Act fails to protect Americans' privacy and gives the government too much authority to spy on Americans and seize their property.

Leahy apparently considers it an example of bipartisan achievement.

10. That's the Republican strategy.
By complete and total surrender to corporate dollars, the Republicans coast on talking points and hair dye.

The Democrats who push for any sort of reform at all are the ones fighting. The GOP eagerly capitulated a long time ago.
