Governor Jindal, may I have your attention for a minute please.

First let's review from last February

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/02/25/jindal.volcanoes/

Gov. Bobby Jindal's volcano remark has some fuming

Gov. Jindal singled out a $140 million appropriation for the U.S. Geological Survey as an example of questionable government spending during the GOP response to President Obama's address to Congress Tuesday night.

The governor, a rising Republican star, questioned why "something called 'volcano monitoring' " was included in the nearly $800 billion economic stimulus bill Obama signed earlier this month.

Now let's take a look at today's newspaper headlines

Now please serve out the rest of your term and quietly leave the art of leadership to the adults. Playing an adult while your a Governor can lead to serious injury and loss of life and it should be entrusted to folks who have a reasonable appreciation for the scope and use of science.

Now if you insist in hanging around we are going to take this out and beat you over the head with it like a junk yard dog. It was pretty damn funny before and now you have become a permanent SNL skit.

And, in a supreme strike of irony, you profess a particularly grandiose theology ascribing all sorts of natural actions to the "WILL OF GOD", so if that's what it takes then so be it:

The Lord God has Spoken in Iceland Yesterday and this is what he is saying:

Bobby Jindal you schmuck!
Do Not Run For President
Don't Make Me put a lightning bolt up your Ass!!

1. The hotel my wife works in is nearly empty now because of the volcano related cancellations
And her employer's usual pestering to fill the rooms has gone into serious overdrive.

Yeah, it's quite a big fucking deal!

with the eruption of an Icelandic volcano.

5. Absolutely
I've always thought that we're lucky to have been living is such relatively stable times, considering the earth's geological history.

I'm not sure if you know this but I'm an expat living in Indonesia and the hospitality industry here is in a similar emergency mode they were in immediately after the Bali bombings. Hotels may go bankrupt and a lot of people could lose their jobs because of this volcano on the other side of the world.

30. I live within 50-80 miles of four active volcanoes: Augustine, Redoubt,
Iliamna and Spur. He decried funding our volcano watching up here. Dimwit. I've been here through the upchucking of all four, some of them more than once. they are worse volcanoes than the Icelandic one. The volcanologists say this will bring on 'brutal winters'. Get ready Europe, Asia, North America ... etc.

2. Heh ...

Ever since he made his comment, I've semi-regularly been posting pictures and news about volcano incidents around the world to my Facebook page with the caption, "For Bobby ..." and nothing else.

Strangely enough, it's created some conversation here and there, but of course the hardcore rightwingers who are my "friends" think it's all just really silly.

On March 22, I posted something about this eruption. One comment was "Big fucking deal ..."

That person has gone strangely quiet since then.

3. We were all talking about his ignorant statement today!
"Instead of monitoring volcanoes, what Congress should be monitoring is the eruption of spending in Washington."

If I were to speak publicly, as did Jindal, I would make sure I knew what I was talking about. I would have at least Googled the topic's criticisms before I spoke them, on the record, in front of millions of people.

In fact, I do that now, when I make little posts on DU!

9. If you were a Republican politician, knowing what your were talking about . . .
Would be about 10th on the list after making sure you used Fred Luntz's glossary, got in a reference to "socialism", implied the opposition was immoral, suggested they were all out of touch with "regular folk," pointed out their slavish devotion to Hollywood values, pretended that only Democrats spend public money, etc., etc.

I suggest he sit on it, because he couldn't hit the floor if he fell on it.

Next idiotic candidate please, the GOP is starting to look a bit thin.

10. One almost wishes Jindal hadn't said that
Might have been better to have had his Mister Rogers persona up front & personal to be ridiculed in the here and now come next July through October.

The guy really is a caricature, just as Susan Collins was to some with her :gasp: pandemic preparedness funds outcry.

Sadly, too many folks have short memories about things like this.

17. He is not going to be the nominee.

Beyond the historical reasons that someone that has already lost never gets a second chance (unless they were running against an incumbent President or they themselves became a sitting Vice President) is another issue about Romney, his religion.

To understand why Evangelicals will not support Romney you have to understand that Mormon Churches are usually situated within a few hundred feet of the local high school. In Carlsbad it is across the street. This is part of the recruitment plan of the Mormon Church. Have lots of after school activities (like Boy Scouts) and get your kids to bring their friends to the Church which is conveniently located next to the High School.

Evangelicals and mainline Protestants consider Mormonism a spiritual fraud because they just invented alot of things that aren't true about Jesus, the Indians, the Bible and just about everything to do with the Christian religion.

Day in and day out Churches are faced with this 'gang' rivalry fighting for their kids to go to their activities and to skip the Mormon ones. For this reason there is an absolute enmity between Evangelicals and Mormons that runs deeper than the enmity between Evangelicals and Democrats.

I grew up in a mainline Protestant home but my father hated FDR and the Democrats - 'better dead than red'.

I am not exaggerating when I tell you that my father would have preferred to elect FDR as President than to elect George Romney or any other Mormon, even though they might agree on every policy position. They know that the Mormons would consider the election of a Mormon to the Presidency as validation that they are now accepted as part of mainstream Christianity and this is something that is 10 times more bitter than electing a Democrat.

(For the record my ancestors were leaders of the Mormon Church, including the second most important President of the Church after Bringham Young and the first Mayor of Salt Lake City. Senator Bennett is a not too distant cousin) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Wells%E2%80%93Bennett%E2%80%93Grant_family

32. I got two Heber J and Jedidiah

You could make an argument that Heber J was even more important than Bringham Young because he 1) arranged financing that allowed the Mormons to survive the depression (and afterwards created the social welfare system so that Mormons would never depend on anyone else again) 2) Orchestrated the transition from polygamy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heber_J._Grant

Jedidiah was the first mayor of Salt Lake City and got that by being the preacher that was responsible for the Mormon Reformation. The hightened fervor of the Mormons from the MR led to the Meadow Mountain Massacre which our family believes was carried out under orders of Brigham Young. Jedidiah got Pnemonia from it and died shortly after becoming mayor. Jedidiah was raised by Brigham Young.

Mountain Meadows Massacre (online) a few years ago that clearly place my WAHickman at the head of his group of Danites following the pioneers south through Utah just before the massacre and then returning north shortly afterword in possession of their "stuff". The Mormons won't even touch the subject of the DANITES as the culprits because they had Hamblin or whoever take the fall.

But my g-g-g-grandfather appears to have been a key player in THAT little fracas. :wow:

I'm surprised the nutjob Phelps family hasn't mentioned that yet. Probably the only reason they aren't picketing Iceland right now is because they can't fly there.
