Poll: Most Americans are morons and we are SCREWED in November
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/07/shocking-poll-55-percent-of-voters-think-obamas-a-socialist.php?ref=fpa

Have months of Fox News hyperventilating and right-wing fear mongering over our supposed socialist-in-chief finally paid off? A majority of voters now think President Barack Obama is a socialist, at least according to one new poll.

The poll (PDF) from Democracy Corps finds that 55 percent of likely voters believe that the word "socialist" describes the president either "well" or "very well."

If a nation gets the leaders it deserves, the United States will get John Boehner as Speaker.

1. Add the morons to those who have lost hope that this admin and Congress will
do good things and you have a slaughter on the horizon.

At this point, I am almost beyond giving a shit. Problem is - the pols (at both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue) don't care. They have theirs and that is all that matters to them.

during his first two years.

It's the god awful, stupid, moronic independent 'centrists' who decide most elections in this country.

19. When things aren't going good for them they try the other team.
it's as simple as that.

This admin and congress has not done a good job of helping ordinary americans.

Plain and simple. And the people don't know or care about the labels, or the policy. They care about the result. the results are not there.

If they had seen a change in their life, they wouldn't have been able to tell you why and they wouldn't have cared what label was slapped on it.

They go with the other team, and give them a chance. That is their only choice.

I want more, we all wanted me. I just don't see an alternative and if this is one situation were the lesser of two evils makes sense to me, it's this one.

Who, what, or how do you suggest to get that change within the next 4 - 8 years. Other than a national revolution I don't know.

and I am so totally sick of it. MM, I dont have a solution, nadda, except civil rights didnt change in this country until cities burned. The future is yours, I might see 2 maybe 3 more presidents, I am giving up on the voting thing, it was never fixed anyway.

So Good luck to you and our country, I am all hoped out. Money trumps God these days.

MM, thanks for the question, I hope you have a good day.

37. Remember that - I was in Newark NJ
Girlfriend got cracked in the skull with a baton. I was lucky - only a broken finger. Burn baby, burn in Watts.

I don't see that happening today. No one is pissed off enough. Too busy with Facebook, twitter, Xbox and all that shit to get out and take a stand.

Last 2 protests during the bush administration I attended was a protest against Scalia and the USSC at Princeton U, mild street thearte - singing. Another protesting *bush at a Faith Based meeting in Piscataway. Waste of time.

Sometimes I just say screw it. :smoke:

Maybe one more election - there's still 2 years to go. I doubt there will be a great awakining. I'm reaching the point and age that if the generation coming up and the under 30's don't care - piss on it. There's more sand at the bottom of my hour glass than at the top. Call me selfish but, I'm going to chill and try to enjoy something that's left to this life.

8. The results don't make sense.

Who the hell did they poll?

Make up of respondents:

Strong Democrat.............................23
Weak Democrat...............................12
Independent-lean Democrat...............12
Independent.....................................6
Independent-lean Republican.............15
Weak Republican.............................12
Strong Republican...........................19

For 55 percent of respondents to believe that the word "socialist" describes the President well, every Republican, some Independents and Democrats would have to believe that is true. Absurd.

Is it the poll or the people?

It's the people--Americans are stupid, and if you call Obama a 'socialist' a thousand times a majority will believe it regardless of the truth.

33. True.
It's almost as if we need a way to reframe the debate and make Americans realize how far to the right Washington has moved. In today's context being just right of center makes you a far left radical compared to the Republicans who fell off the cliff.

Oh well, someday someone in the media will catch on and hammer this point in an easy to understand way. Until then we'll have the nonsense cries of socialism/communism/marxist spreading past the insane base of Fox and right wing radio (because obviously those nuts will always exist).

Regardless of what you think of this poll, the fact is that the GOP still continues to out manuever and get their message out much better. You have to realize that 95% of the population does follow GOP obstructionism as closely as we do. If anything, Obama and dem leaders need to be out there constantly bashing the GOP! And the unemployment benefits issue has given so much ammo to do that! Why don't they?

34. If the majority truely believe this then Americans
never deserved their middle class status. White suburban middle class had no objections to high taxes on the top earners and strong regulations so long as they did not have to share with the minorities. Once the federal government opened the door to minorities/women, the suburbanites turned against the economic policies that made them affluent.
