Since the rise in populist rhetoric from the White House, critics on DU have been...
relatively quiet.

Is this a sign of placation?

1. They were just waiting for the next thing to be outraged about...

Obama apparently made a joke last night and some liberals got their feelings hurt. There were a couple of threads in general discussion about it.

3. He's still a corporate lawyer. But, even critics need to take a rest.
In the end, we get the corporate lawyers, policemen, and criminals we deserve.

8. He's far better at it than he has been as a constitutional lawyer.

Glad you're amused. I'm not. I don't like the way we were sold on his credentials as a law professor, when he's shown no real desire to restore or protect the liberties of whistle blowers, detainees, and the general public who are still subject to universal warrantless surveillance in our private communications.

He is, however, a superb advocate for the property rights of disgraced bankers and billionaires.

11. He couldn't handle trail law where he would actually have to oppose someone in the same room!
That would be just too confrontational!

9. Why is this necessary, Writer?
I've already taken the bait a couple of times tonight and I'm not going to with your OP. So take this as a rhetorical question. Why was this OP necessary?

17. When its Campaign Season ALL Democrats PRETEND to be Progressive.
Edited on Sun Sep-19-10 01:01 PM by denimgirly
Its what they do after elections that matter...So right now is just trick the people to get them to vote time...After november i am sure the voters will be smacked across the face again.

From what i see (assuming its not campaign season trickery time) the democrats are RIGHT, and republicans are Extreme RIGHT. So the question is who is the less of two evils but whatever you choose the people always lose.

20. it's a sign of support
we want him to speak in terms like this. When I hear it, I say here's something I can get behind.

But there's no way around the fact that he also needs to give us a reason to believe he means it. I hear him speak in clear terms about the Bush tax cuts and I say Yes! But in the back of my mind I fear the potential upcoming image of him signing a "temporary" extension of all the tax cuts.
