There's one issue that I support the tea party on.
I read the other day that some members of the tea party are in favor of term limits on congress. I could fully agree with, I would also like to see pensions disappear for members of Congress.

I am thinking two terms for Senators and six for Representatives. Thus giving each chamber a max of twelves years.

1. I absolutely agree. I would be willing to bet there are some in
Wash DC who are taking medication for Alzheimer's.

2. I think
the teabaggers should get their way: There should be term limits for Republicans.

Democrats can continue voting people into or out of office.

10. If they served the maximum amount of terms? Yes. Kennedy could have more.............
than likely picked his replacement and supported that person, and they probably would of ran. I take nothing away from Kennedy has done, and his loss is tragic, but what happened to his seat after he died?

11. I know it's a pipe dream, since it's congress that has to pass them, but ...........
I think it's worth the debate.

7. The Republicans used that ploy in the 90s.
The won control of Congress and all of a sudden weren't so interested in term limits.

9. Newt Gingrich played that one and showed that it is a false promise.
And term limits has it's problems. Just as you get someone who knows what he is doing, term limits hit. Yes, there are bad Representatives that we wish we could term limit out. But there are good representatives. Imagine if Edward Kennedy or Bernie Saunders had been limited to two terms in the Senate. Though states can establish term limits for elected officials, federal offices are defined by the Constitution. It would require a Constitutional amendment or Federal law to do that. And who will actually pass a law to limit the time he or she can occupy a job.

12. Not as effective as it would seem
California has term limits for the state legislature and it hasn't made anything better, all you have is a lot of people with barely any experience running things. I do think Senate terms should be reduced to four years, though.

13. Four terms would put them at 24 years, I could live with that .........
my biggest problem with Congress are the arcane rules. I can live with the filibuster rule, as long as that each side were forced to actually filibuster.

Another problem is all the oversight committees. I would never argue to get rid of oversight committees, but we need to find a way to streamline them. We have entirely way too many that it makes them ineffective. I am not arguing for smaller government, but rather more effective government.

15. Shouldn't the voters in each state get to keep good
representatives? The voters can choose now if they want to keep someone in or not...I don't like term limits...

And give them a change to destroy the country for another twelve years? No thanks.
