Tea Party Group To Corporations: Support Obama And We'll Take You Down

Tea Party Group To Corporations: Support Obama And We'll Take You Down

The tea party movement has a new target: Corporate America. Leaders of FreedomWorks, Dick Armey's branch of the conservative revolution, tell US News' Paul Bedard that the tea party movement is now ready to go to war with companies that the group says endorse "President Obama's progressive agenda."

On the short list are General Electric and Johnson & Johnson. Their crimes: "Their initial focus" of FreedomWorks' anti-corporate war "will be on consumer firms that lobbied for passage of Obama's agenda items that helped their firms." Those items include: "healthcare reform, bailouts, cap-and-trade energy policies or other issues pushed by the administration."

How will FreedomWorks take out these corporate giants? Through what it says will be a series of massive consumer boycotts Bedard likens to past anti-corporate protests mounted by Jesse Jackson.

<...>

So now all FreedomWorks has to do, its leaders say, is spread their version of the truth about these companies to conservatives far and wide, using the same kind of grassroots internettery the group used to get the tea party rolling over the past couple years.

The GOP monster.

23. Now, this is interesting
I can see why the likes of Dick Armey would do this. Their aim is one-party rule by the GOP, forever. But the corporations clearly find it helpful to buy off the "centrist" (right) wing of the Democratic Party too, in order to preserve the illusion of democracy; giving voters, in Wendell Berry's words, a vote without a choice. The question is, if Armey prevails and the Democrats are reduced to the status of the third parties, having to survive on membership dues alone, will people finally wake up and realise that they've been duped, or will they simply assume that permanent Republican rule is what the people want?

3. So now the Tea Party wants to take out Corporate America
Edited on Tue Nov-23-10 12:28 PM by MadMaddie
I thought the Tea Party was comprised of independent thinkers and small government yada..yada..yada..I thought they supported Free Enterprise to do what ever they wanted to do........oh that's right that only if Free Enterprise does what the racist Tea Party wants them do.....

No surprise here. The companies that get in bed with the teaparty will have to realize that their multi-faceted marketing to all demographics will be damaged if they get in bed with the Tea-baggers.

8. Let the war begin....
He he..."Dick Armey" he he His army better be wearing their cups. I don't think he is counting on how thoroughly pissed off and angry recent events have made his opposition. His kind has awakend a sleeping giant---the majority of people who DID NOT vote for the morons swept into office. They got the moron vote, but even morons can wise up and will turn on their masters. Just like America in Iraq and Afghastistan, he will be stretching his supply lines very thin by being greedy.

13. So let me get this straight; The corporations create the Teabaggers in order to stymie Obama,
then the Teabaggers turn around and threaten the Corporations not to support Obama.

That's the joke on the face of it, right?

14. So they're 'anti coporate' against the things Obama did that big business doesn't like. In
reality they are railing against Obama for big business, but in their heads they think that they are anti-business. Up is down. I hate Freedomworks, but that is fucking brilliant. We need more Machiavellain cut throat motherfuckers on our side...

Edited on Thu Nov-25-10 04:04 PM by lunatica
They've served their purpose, but he'll get them all aroused again in two years. They can't do anything to the corporations because Dick Armey benefits directly from corporations.
