The "giant" should never have gone to sleep in the first place.

Great that the "giant" is finally waking up. VERY sad it took all these RePUKE atrocities to make it happen. C'mon. Is anyone really surprised that they are doing this? Politics is WAR to the right wing, and their grand plan is to destroy middle class power so that the rich and super rich have everything and control everything. They are waging a WAR on unions, teachers, cops, firefighters, social workers, ... all to further enrich their rich owners FOREVER, and it is NO surprise whatsoever. Obama and D's all over this country warned, and warned, and warned that giving these bastards the keys back would mean they would drive us right off a cliff. Well, now they are doing it and unions and middle class folks are screeching. Winston Churchill famously said, "Study history! Study history! Study history!" Well, the great historical lesson of 2010 is GET THE HELL ENGAGED IN THE ELECTORAL PROCESS AND DON'T LET REPUKES WIN IN THE FIRST PLACE ! Yes, big kudos to those D's/Progressives who DID work, did phonebank, did donate, and did vote. And yes,a majority of indies did slide back to the pukes out of economic frustration. BUT, we must also be adults and acknowledge the MANY D's/Progressives who went to the sleep at the wheel, wouldn't get out of their funk, and would not engage in the election must bear some responsibility. We do ourselves a massive disservice if we do not own up to mistakes. MANY of the races were close and could have been won if more D's had ENGAGED (phonebanked, canvassed, donated, voted). (And please, spare the lame excuses about how Obama and Dems weren't progressive enough so didn't inspire people enough. They gave us the two most progressive years we've had since LBJ's Great Society, and that is absolutely irrefutable. You Tube Maddow's analysis if a refresher is needed.)

So we live. We learn. And we will hopefully re-call the RePUKES in WI and maybe elsewhere. But imagine if people had engaged last fall instead. We wouldn't be in this mess, or at least not nearly as much of a mess. To echo Churchill, LEARN from history, LEARN from history, LEARN from history.

1. I agree!
As a local union leader, I couldn't get 5 members to come to a meeting. Before the election, I talked until I was blue in the face about the things that Walker had done to workers in Milwaukee. Warned them that some of these things could happen to us. Most couldn't even bring themselves to put up a Barrett yard sign. I'm guessing that probably half of my local voted for Walker because of wedge issues such as guns and abortion.

Now, they're angry. I'm glad that they're coming back to the union, but I shake my head as to what could have been.

2. Thanks. I had the same experience as a local Dem committee official. Trying to get volunteers was
worse than trying to pull teeth out of an alligator. Live and learn.
