Republicans Say They’ve Already Agreed To A Concession In Debt Fight: Raising The Debt Limit

LOL! This is why you can't negotiate with Republicans.

Republicans Say They’ve Already Agreed To A Concession In Debt Fight: Raising The Debt Limit
Brian Beutler | July 11, 2011, 3:27PM

Republican leaders won't accept tax increases in exchange for deep entitlement cuts, and say they'll only raise the national debt limit in exchange for a spending cut package that's revenue neutral.

That leaves them vulnerable to the charge that they're not negotiating in good faith -- that they're refusing to budge on anything of ideological importance to them under the threat of a catastrophic debt default. So they need an answer when pressed: If President Obama has agreed in principle to cut entitlements, over howls of protests from members of his party, what are Republicans prepared to offer that amounts to similar political risk in their own party.

Here's what they've settled on: We'll agree to raise the debt limit!

At his weekly press availability House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) said the key Republican concession is "the fact that we are voting -- the fact that we are even discussing voting for a debt ceiling increase." He claimed this was a significant move. "What I don't think the White House understands is how difficult it is for fiscal conservatives to say they're going to vote to pay for a debt ceiling increase."

The Republicans want any new debt ceiling deal to contain 100% spending cuts and no new taxes. Obama has already conceded about 85% in spending cuts and only wants about 15% in new revenue. Republicans won't even agree to that.

This is the point where you tell the Republicans to FUCK OFF. Any knew "deal" will be SHIT anyways.

Obama should tell Boner to take his proposal and SHOVE IT UP HIS ASS!

7. The Republicans do NOT look like the compromising ones

Agreeing to VOTE is not a compromise. They didn't even say that they would vote 'yes'.

Of course they are planning to vote 'NO'.

President Obama looks like the only adult in the room!

How many debt limit increases did Cantor vote for while Bush was president?

4. How about we play the repukes game
Set up a pure vote on only the debt ceiling and promise to vote on cutting entitlements and then after the ceiling is raised tell them to fuck off and never vote on entitlements.

People give me a break. Stop looking at everything through this narrowed lense. We're supposed to be able to realize when unfortunately we need discuss something with these people if we need anything to get done in this nation. We can't just say they're terrorists and say fuck it. It doesn't work that way and I'm tired of listening to shit like that on this board.

John F. Kennedy said, "We cannot negotiate with those who say, "What's mine is mine and what's yours is negotiable."”

Go argue with him.

35. CD, you missed the important part
"They'll only raise the national debt limit in exchange for a spending cut package that's revenue neutral."

In other words, they want to use the spending cuts to pay for tax cuts.

Someone needs to send the president an ax handle, which he is to use to beat senseless any Republican that utters the phrases "tax cuts" or "revenue neutrality."

The MINIMUM correct ratio of tax increases to spending cuts is 1:1--one dollar increased revenue, which can only be applied to deficit reduction, for each dollar of reduced spending--and the first place to reduce spending is in crap like ballistic missile defense. The Republicans want to turn our military into a lean mean terrorist-killin' machine? Terrorists don't have ICBMs.
