Something to be wary of -- The GOP may jettison the Teabaggers after the primaries
Edited on Fri Aug-12-11 10:53 PM by Armstead
The Teabaggers have been the "useful idiots" for the GOP the last couple of years. They brought energy and enthusiasm to a party that had been on the ropes, and brought it back to life.

And once they had a foothold in Congress, they advanced the GOP agenda.

But the poo-bahs in the GOP and their Corporate Owners probably hate those morons almost as much as we do. They have run amuck, and threaten to trash the economy and tarnish the reputation of the GOP real bad.

And the GOP and the Poo-Bahs don't like to see either their economy threatened nor their reputation (long term political viability) tarnished.

Soooooooo, my theory is that the GOP will most likely let the kids play for a while and get it out of their system. And allow them to think they are running the primary show.

But then they will lower the boom. They will rig the primaries so that one of the controllable Teabaggers (or pseudo-Teabaggers) like Perry take the nomination. And in Congressional races, they are going to quietly push the candidates who are likewise -- and co-opt the current Teabaggers into becoming amoral Washington Insiders with all the perks if they play ball.

Then, once the general elections are underway, the anointed candidates will take off the Teabag mask and be revealed as Moderate Conservatives. The candidate(s) will still be corporate conservatives, but suddenly they will get all reasonable and stuff. They will back off their previous fiscal craziness, and their religious beliefs will be downplayed or made to seem more mainstream. "Tea Party? Oh don't pay any attention to them. They're just a small segment of our party."

Thus the True Believing Teabag Troops will be relegated to supporting players. They'll be told (in a mirror image of what Liberal/Progressive Democrats have been hearing for years) "You have to work for us and vote for us or you'll be stuck with those awful Democrat Liberals."

And, add a promise that may become true: "And don't worry. Once we get in we'll do that stuff you want too, like slash and burn the budget, ban abortion and revoke all gay marriages."

And -- this is the scary part -- the more Moderate GOP will thus be made to seem more palatable to moderates and those "swing voters" because "they're so good at business." Those recent transgressions will be forgiven and forgotten by the majority, and instead the GOP will get back to their image as the "fiscally responsible problem solvers."

Therefore, if we want to win, we can't get too complacent. We can't assume that Rick Perry is too goofy or batshit crazy to become President, just because that's what he's doing now to get the nomination. And we have to be making records of the loonier pronouncements of the candidates. And don't let ADD America forget the Teabaggers and the destructive role they have played.

6. Tea Baggers would Rally around a Rogue Third Party Candidacy, Sarah Palin Might Be the One...
The crazy faction of the Tea Party (which is most of them) would follow and dump Republicans in a heartbeat.

I think you're on to something.

8. Now that would be ideal
A Teabag 3rd Party, with all the hardcore splitting the right wing vote.

5. They will be around for awhile longer. In fact, they will work hard
to expand their numbers, I believe.

7. They remind me of the uber-crazy fundies, the Falwell crowd.
They are not without influence, but they don't have the power they used to have (a lot of those misbehaving, living like kings fundie preachers didn't help their cause).

I think we'll have to tolerate them for a bit of a while more. Pretty soon, they'll screw themselves with their spitting, angry hate.

10. they'll try, they may or may not succeed
the Florida GOP successfully jettisoned Katherine Harris. But then a few years later they tried and failed to get rid of Rick Scott, but he's now Gov. of Florida.

11. I don't thinbk the governors as the Teabaggers. They're political Carpetbaggers
The Governors are more in line with the GOP Corporate Bosses. They may govern like Teabaggers, but they have a different place, and the Koch Bros like them just fine
