Not anymore, at least. It's all driven by conflict, bias to the right (which is more favorable to the gigantic corporations that own the media), and hyperbole. There is no nefarious liberal agenda that so many think there is.
They weren't as red as has been portrayed. Also the turn out was low (41%) compared to the regular election turn out (70%). The two Rs that lost had personal issues which became part of the campaign. But I did hear about the results on plenty of news outlets even if you didn't.
