"Why Ron Paul is good for America"?

Why Ron Paul is good for America

By Brent Budowsky

If Barack Obama had 10 percent the conviction for the views he stated in 2008 that Ron Paul has for the views he has stated for decades the American economy and political landscape would be dramatically different and in my view, dramatically better. Let’s set aside our policy differences for a moment and consider the Ron Paul phenomenon, and why Ron Paul continues to have such dramatic impact on our political debate, despite contemptuous treatment he receives from the mass media.

<...>

Literally for decades, Ron Paul has stated his views intelligently and cogently. He did not care whether he was swimming with the tide or swimming against the tide, because Ron Paul wanted to shape the tide. This is what leaders and conviction politicians do. This is what campaign workers and small donors seek. This is what America needs.

<...>

What is impressive is the degree that other Republicans (including the Rick Perry who no longer champions Al Gore) sound like parrots repeating Ron Paul on issues.

In this very important sense, Ron Paul is already one of the big winners of the 2012 campaign.

"Intelligently and cogently"? That's one seriously flawed opinion.

Ron Paul: I wouldn't have killed bin Laden

Oh really?

Guess Paul forgot about his own bizarre 2001 resolution: September 11 Marque and Reprisal Act of 2001 (PDF)

<...>

SEC. 3. AUTHORITY OF PRESIDENT.

(a) The President of the United States is authorized and requested to commission, under officially issued letters of marque and reprisal, so many of privately armed and equipped persons and entities as, in his judgment, the service may require, with suitable instructions to the leaders thereof, to employ all means reasonably necessary to seize outside the geographic boundaries of the United States and its territories the person and property of Osama bin Laden, of any al Qaeda co-conspirator, and of any conspirator with Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda who are responsible for the air piratical aggressions and depredations perpetrated upon the United States of America on September 11, 2001, and for any planned future air piratical aggressions and depredations or other acts of war upon the United States of America and her people.

(b) The President of the United States is authorized to place a money bounty, drawn in his discretion from the $40,000,000,000 appropriated on September 14, 2001, in the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act for Recovery from and Response to Terrorists Attacks on the United States or from private sources, for the capture, alive or dead, of Osama bin Laden or any other al Qaeda conspirator responsible for the act of air piracy upon the United States on September 11, 2001, under the authority of any letter of marque or reprisal issued under this Act.

(c) No letter of marque and reprisal shall be issued by the President without requiring the posting of a security bond in such amount as the President shall determine is sufficient to ensure that the letter be executed according to the terms and conditions thereof.

He reintroduced the bill in 2007

To authorize the President to issue letters of marque and reprisal with respect to certain acts of air piracy upon the United States on September 11, 2001, and other similar acts of war planned for the future.

<...>

The President of the United States is authorized and requested to commission, under officially issued letters of marque and reprisal, so many of privately armed and equipped persons and entities as, in his judgment, the service may require, with suitable instructions to the leaders thereof, to employ all means reasonably necessary to seize outside the geographic boundaries of the United States and its territories the person and property of Osama bin Laden, of any al Qaeda co-conspirator, and of any conspirator with Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda who are responsible for the air piratical aggressions and depredations perpetrated upon the United States of America on September 11, 2001, and for any planned future air piratical aggressions and depredations or other acts of war upon the United States of America and her people.

It's OK to authorize war as long as it comes with sending vigilantes to kill Muslims. Ron Paul isn't anti-war, he's anti government. He would support mercenaries and pirates if he could, and would eliminate every social program.

What's going on here? Have the pundits decided to push Paul so the other Republican candidates look sane by comparison? Or have they decided that batshit crazy/extreme RW isn't all that bad?

3. Paul is consistent on everything except abortion but it doesn't mean he's right.
I miss the days when our party produced strong ideological leaders committed to doing the right thing.

4. He's not consistent on war

He says one thing and does another. His votes against things have been made easy. And his bin Laden claim was flat out disingenuous. On top of being a politician just like all other politicians, he's a demagogue with dangerous ideas.

The other day Paul hit Romney on his "corporations are people" comment, but no one reported that Paul voted against the DISCLOSE ACT.

7. Ron Paul is the Right's Ralph Nader.
Both are ideologues, both are hypocrites, both have massive egos, both are out of touch with reality.
