it has been a long road. I joined DU ages ago when howard dean was just a long shot candidate from the middle of nowhere.
I have seen DU go from a small message board to a thriving community of people of various ideas who will congregate (and sometimes fight) for our positions.
but one thing it has never been is a home to fascism. we may have our differences. we can be agnostics, aethiests, buddhists, shintoists, taoists, buddhists, christians, muslims, or any other kinda fuckin ism.
but what we aren't is haters. we support our gay, lesbian, and bisexual friends and family. we stand up for racial harmony and understanding. we do not look at war as a first resort but as a last resort. we value the right to dissent and more importantly, above all else, the right to freedom and liberty.
we realize corporate personhood is, above all else, a fraud. there is only one type of personhood, the american personhood.
we come from diverse backgrounds, diverse upbringings, from the most wordly grandparent to the newest youngster interested in their government and future.
but most importantly, we stand together. United in our differences. supporting each other's right to believe and to feel, in agreement for the common good.
God bless my fellow liberals/democrats/whatever.
our work has just begun and we will never stop fighting.
