I'm done with Facebook
Edited on Sat May-07-11 08:14 AM by rbrnmw
I counted 22 of these posts on my facebook wall since
yesterday I just want to scream they are ignorant,
misinformed, and pathetic. I just cancelled my account I can't
take anymore of their hate.

"Let's be clear on this: OBAMA did NOT kill Bin Laden. An
American soldier, who Obama, just a few weeks ago was debating
on whether or not to PAY, did. Obama just happened to be the
one in office when our soldiers finally found OBL and took him
out. This is NOT an Obama victory, but an AMERICAN victory!!
REPOST IF YOU AGREE!!!

this one too

Obama did not get Osama. It was our hard working members of
our military. Time to stop basking in the limelight."

I don't share in your hostility to President Obama, at all.

But it is obvious that Facebook basically wants to steal your identity.

Don't let them. Stay away in droves.

Or that my Doctoral friends were stupid, or that my childhood friends-who I haven't seen in decades, are stupid. My IT professional friends? Stupid too! My family? Dumb as rocks!

Thanks for pointing out my mental inadequacies for using a social site to re-acquaint myself to the people I've loved throughout my life. I would have never known without someone superior to point it out.

Thanks!

54. I'm surprised you would say that in light of what happened in AL last week
We have a neighborhood group on FB and it has been invaluable about getting out the word where help is needed...neighbors who need assistance cleaning up after the storms, tarps for their roofs, etc. Last fall we used FB to organize a fund-raiser for a young neighbor who was dying of cancer and had no insurance. As a result she was able to die peacefully in her own home surrounded by her friends.

Most of the info I get on FB is about events going on around the Birmingham community. Maybe you should try it before you condemn it and its users.

Signed,
Stupid Birmingham Resident

8. Two points ...
1) President Obama, as Commander in Chief, made the choices, within the purview of his role in the United States government, that promoted this particular course of action, which actually went against the advice of some of his advisors .... He chose the specific type of action, even though it was risky and fraught with the possibility of failure ....

For that ? ... Supporters would praise him for his courage and forethought, and detractors would condemn him for his rashness and foolishness ...

There is no doubt that Obama played a role .... One that history will bear out, one way or the other ...

2) I have right wing friends and family, and very few of them ever mentioned it .... NONE have praised him for it, but none, save one, has mentioned it at all .... The one did mention it, but seemed to apparently forgot to mention Obama completely ... good or bad ....

I have deleted one RW extremist sister from my friends list .... Tis a pity, but I don't need that negativity in my life ...

Dump all assholes from your friends list ....

Just de-friend them, unless you really don't want to use FB anymore.

I am in the process of doing a thorough Friend list clean-up...when I'm done, I expect to pare the list down from about 300 to under 50 people that I have no other convenient way to stay in touch with.

24. I learned to hard way
That it's better to block their posts than to unfriend them. Lately I've tried to calmly answer the misinformation with facts and links. I mean, it's another forum where there's an opportunity to correct falsehoods. For instance, the post you described has that crazy rumor in it that Obama was proposing cutting military pay. I've run across that twice on facebook. It needs to be debunked, if only to encourage them to move along to their next nutty accusation. I will admit, it's very difficult to stay calm sometimes.

nor respond to anything political, ever. I am happy with my beliefs, and don't care what someone else believes about anything. I love my President and I am very
proud of our country, as I was with the end of Saddam. I don't de-friend anyone for a post, just ignore and read through. I like to see what is said, and I had plenty to say during the Bush days, so it doesn't bother me. Although I feel like asking them why they hate America.

It's really easy, and you can block groups from appearing in your feed, assign what groups you want to see your posts, etc. I find it incredibly helpful to keep my family and childhood friends, work, and social lives separate. it was a godsend when they introduced that feature.

47. totally!
I outright deleted some people, no loss really :) But the old friends, or friends of family, the kind of people I can't totally delete but who are very conservative, I put them in a group that can't see my stuff and it's easy to ignore theirs since I have the people I most want to see on lists too, so I look at those lists. I've done this with conservatives, and sometimes with very religious people just so they won't be offended by what I'm saying. It's so easy to ignore them, it's like these people aren't even really in my friends list.

Everyone belongs on a list!!! :headbang:
