Anyone else all of a sudden getting buried in "pre-approved", credit card offers in the mail?
It was pretty hit and miss there for a while. Now it is back to getting 4 or 5 of them every day. Some addressed to me and others addressed to my wife.

Some are offering cash to start an account with them. I got one from Chase with a $150 cash offer to start and my wife received one from Citi with $100 cash back to start.

As regular as they are coming in I think I am going to hold off for a better offer before dinging my credit score and applying for one.

Anyone else noticed an increase in these type of mailings recently?

Don

2. Yes, I have. It was a relief not having all of the junk mail for awhile.
But they have started up again. Although, the offers are not as good as they once were.

9. They're coming again. I'm tossing again.

I can't be bothered to cut-em in half. Which may be a mistake since I had Discover Card threaten to take me to court over bogus-credit card bills. Back during Bush II, first term, I'm guessing.( I never wanted, asked for or signed for a Discover card... but probably tossed about 300 unsoliciteds in the bin .)

I guess it means that credit is easing up?

Or just more vicious corporate chicanery in this , the "era of deregulation... and the rise of the new robber barons" as Chapter 25 of the 9th grade American History textbook will doubtless be entitled in the year 21-??.

10. Not yet, but it's happened to me before.
Agree that you can probably hold out for a lower rate one...somewhere in the neighborhood of 9.99% or 12.99%.

11. Yes, those mailings completely stopped....
...for a while. Now we are getting them regularly. Like you, sometimes a few a day.

And as always--I rip them up and put them in recycling.

No way in hell I'd EVER have a credit card. I like keeping my money--as opposed to sending to "the man"
every month and paying 17 percent interest on purchases.

Credit cards are a huge raquet and I find myself pitying anyone who doesn't understand this.

15. They completely stopped here for a while
Some days there was nothing in the box. Now several every single day.

Credit cards can be dangerous. It is like heroin. They are insidious. When I first started using them a lot it became like play money I was spending. I lost the ability to realize the value of a dollar. It is easy to do.

I use cash 99% of the time. It is the best way to go. No doubt about that.

12. Every week, Discover or GM. I got tired of it and called the number to opt out for 5 years.
I'll see how it works.

Maybe they figured out I can borrow all the money I need from my equity credit line.

They're coming in about two or three a day lately. Not good offers, either (I admit I've opened one or two) so into the recycling bin they go.

Two of them from Chase--they seem to be the worst. We're getting an average of 12/week.

All from the 'player' banks.

The pre-approved card offerings have exploded exponentially.

But he's not dumb enough to jump into that bog just yet.

27. I'm being pummeled with mortgage refinance crap
Despite the fact I have no mortgage, they tell me if I act now, I can miss one payment with no penalty.

Perhaps half the offers arrive in 'official looking' pseudo Veterans administration envelopes with a return address of 2000 Pennsylvania Avenue, DC. Can you say mail drop?
