Proposed: That the word "cojones" be banned from use in English
Edited on Sat May-07-11 10:33 AM by UTUSN
* Quitter PALIN used it when campaigning for either ANGLE or BREWER. The fakeness of its use anytime was in high relief when she used it because: 1- She has shown her ignorance of all things Hispanic (and, please: the Hispanic/Latino label is off-topic), so she was trying to make points, failing miserably. But who was her target---Hispanics I think NOT; more like her usual gang of fringers, think Beavis/Butthead. 2- Somehow, translating "testicles" into Spanish is supposed to make them acceptable in public discourse. Did her Fundie supporters like it if they knew what it means? 3- Why is a male anatomic part supposed to cast favorability when talking about a female (ANGLE or BREWER)?

* Last week, Barbara WALTERS said it, but pronouncing it "CA-jones." Now, she really *is* cosmopolitan, has at least set foot in places where Spanish is spoken and has probably engaged in diddling with Spanish speaking people. Yet she retains a patina of dowdiness, so perhaps she thinks she still needs a hipster flash.

* A test: Is this (in your native language) a word you would use in front of your grandmother, even your grandfather, in front of the opposite sex or children? Why is it better in Spanish with those same people?

* The use is fake, sweating really hard to look cool/hip/kewl, trying to appear knowlegeable and showing the opposite, but most of all, a variety of Shrub-like TUFF TAWK, bluster.

5. Sometimes I wish for the power but my devotion to free speech makes it moot.
Conversely, may my observations on the usage be allowed to be aired? Free speech as a box within a box.

7. Thanks, I'd love it, but my YouTube stalls constantly. It would take me 20 mins
to see a 7 min clip. But I appreciate it!1

4. In our culture, we use references involving male anatomy..
..as pronouncements of courage.. in my opinion, that is the bigger problem with using words like this.

8. Not really. "He's a real dick" "What a dick head" etc etc
Balls is the one exception to the rule.
