Obama Derangement Syndrome-mostly stone fucking racists who can't stand having a black man in WH
Edited on Sat May-07-11 11:08 AM by kpete

The name for their affliction is Obama Derangement Syndrome There are people out there -- mostly stone fucking racists who just can't stand having a black man in the White House -- who will grasp at any straw to shriek and wail that the President is illegitimate and needs to be impeached. The latest idiocy was spawned by a Tweet by ABCs Jake Tapper http://mediamatters.org/blog/201105060017 right before he went on the air Thursday night. This set of apoplexy among the reactionary right. That Kenyan/Muslim/Socialist/Marxist/Nazi was having flags removed from the World Trade Center construction site! O Noes!!! Impeach!!! Except the President was gone, it was around 6:30 eastern, awfully close to sunset, and the construction workers were taking the flag down for the night, as per US Code: (a) It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed 24 hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness. ... (b) The flag should be hoisted briskly and lowered ceremoniously. ... (c) The flag should not be displayed on days when the weather is inclement, except when an all weather flag is displayed. To Tapper's credit, he sent the following tweet on Friday: "Bloggers who created a lie about the flag based on my innocuous tweet: please feel free to unfollow. don't want my facts to become your lies"

http://www.theygaveusarepublic.com/diary/8252/the-nightowl-newswrap

PROBLEM IS --- It isn't true.

Multiple photos show that the flag was on full display when Obama arrived at Ground Zero. Tapper's tweet was posted at 6:30 pm -- hours after the President had left. In all likelihood, Tapper was saying that the flag was being removed before his live shot for ABC World News when he made his tweet.

3. K&R - Nothing he does will ever be right - he'll still be black.
I can't imagine living with that much hatred, especially based on nothing but the color of someone's skin. They hated Clinton for having a "D" after his name, but it was nothing like this. Nothing.

I used to work with a guy who was pretty cool but he played the part. "I'm not prejudiced. I hate everyone, Jews, spics, (and a LONG list of other pejorative terms)." At least everyone knew he was kidding.

5. They're FReepers and Faux News and radio talking heads.
They are people like Sean Hannity, who you can set a clock to - He wants the photos of Bin Laden released because Obama said he wouldn't release them; if Obama had released them, he would be criticizing the president for a decision "dangerous to our troops."

They don't care about this nation or this world. They only want to get that black guy with the funny name, although to be fair, they took the same stance about Bill Clinton (whatever he's for, I'm against it).

10. I was thinking about some people we know who don't like
Pres. Obama and it occurred to me that it is actually the result of racism and prejudice but they don't own that. I was thinking after this last week or so with Pres. Obama releasing the long form birth certificate and the military operation that killed OBL what's left for them to say about Pres. Obama? Basically, it seems that it comes down to racism and their own prejudice.

12. brain-dead groups in our society
You can't argue with people who are brain-dead.

Arguing with birthers, "climate change is not real" types, anti-nuclear power types, all these people are impervious to data.

16. Interesting
that you lump 'anti-nuclear power types' in with 'birthers, "climate change is not real" types,' and people who are 'impervious to data.'

Those of us who are and have been anti-nuke are NOT comparable to birthers or climate change deniers.

15. Well, I can't see where they're any more nuts
than the idiots who tried to impeach Clinton over lying about a sexual affair.

The worst of that sad episode in history being that some of his accusers were doing the same damned thing. And lying about it.

That right there was insane.

I don't know how many of his accusers went after him because of his race or ethnic background, but I would be willing to bet that if this happened in some alternate universe with a black man, people would be screeching about how ALL of the accusers were racists.

Racism isn't always the reason for people wanting to rid the WH of a Democrat who happens to be half black.

25. Jake, like other reporters, should just do some hard reporting and stay away from tweets.
Any self-respecting reporter should be busy taking care of business and not engaging in social networking. But it's what we have come to expect from MSM -- silliness and infotainment.

If that's the attitude he demonstrates on dumb-ass TWITter, (ie, arrogant racism and phoney apologies), then even if he did stick to reporting, it would be no better.

(Btw, I agree with you that professionals should be keeping their profession professional, and not some social media sideshow.)

38. I follow him on twitter and
He's really funny and interesting most of the time. The problem here isn't Trapper's tweet, though, but the egregious misinterpretation of it by a bunch of nutters. When I read it, shortly after he posted it, the meaning was absolutely clear, but then the nutters started with it and Tapper even corrected their willful misinterpretations, but to no avail.

31. Here's the problem as I see it. If you call "racism" on everything under the sun,
then when actual racism appears, it's like calling wolf. No one will buy it. I tend to agree that it's about 25% of the hard right that is truly racist. The other 75% are just not Democrats and will oppose any Democrat in office.

27. This past week has been amazing
The President kills at the correspondent's dinner, then kills Bin Laden 24 hours later. It has to be one of best weeks (if not THE best) of his presidency and the haters refuse to credit him for anything. Watching a fuckhead like Beck sit there bemoaning our "shooting of an unarmed man" was both laughable and extremely sick. Are we seriously supposed to believe that all the RW talkers are suddenly concerned with the civil rights of the world's most wanted man? If Beck was in a room with Hitler and had a chance to kill him, would he do it? He'd probably just kiss his ass too and suck up to power, no matter what.

All these RW pricks need to be asked one question over and over:

"WHY DO YOU HATE AMERICA?"

Because they do. Them and the Cock brothers and all the other greedy, evil racist pigs trying to ruin what's left of this country. They hate us all and need to start getting called out on it immediately.

32. I really dislike this "derangement sydrome" meme
I am not asserting that some critics of Obama are racist, but I do question the usefulness of using this "derangement syndrome" meme.

I think we all recall being dismissed by Bushites when we opposed his policies because, they argued, we suffered from "Bush Derangement Syndrome" and personally hated Bush so much that we opposed any and every policy he pursued, regardless of its merits.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bush_Derangement_Syndrome

The upshot was that many Bush supporters came to think it wasn't worth debating policies because his opponents we all irrational Bush haters.

Personally, I don't like this argument any better when it is used to dismiss Obama's critics. This argument is being used not to stimulate debate and promote discussion, but simply to shut debate down by declaring critics to be irrational.

I'm not trying to condemn the OP here or anyone else, but I would like to point out that this "derangement syndrome" meme is an argument that is inherently corrosive to any form of civil discussion among people with differing views.
