They but up a partial sight barrier around the super-secret raid helicopter (PIC)
Edited on Sat May-07-11 12:19 PM by underpants

Taken by local resident, shows wreckage next
FILE - In this May 2, 2011 file photo, taken by a local resident, shows the wreckage of a helicopter next to the wall of the compound where according to officials, Osama bin Laden was shot and killed in a firefight with U.S. forces in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Secret until now, stealth helicopters may have been the key to the success of the Osama bin Laden raid. But the so far unexplained crash of one of the modified Black Hawks at the scene apparently compromised at least some of the aircraft's secrets.

2. I believe that that picture is a few days old and that the tail section was hauled off....
...via tractor some time ago. I could be wrong, but I twice saw a picture of a tractor hauling away what looked like that tail section. I'd love to know the chain of custody on that thing! Was it automatically returned to the U.S. in some fashion, is it being held by the Pakistani government or...(?)

3. It's good to know something we paid probably a zillion bucks for
actually worked. I don't think the crash was a result of design -- the stealth part was key,IMO. Too bad it's been revealed.

4. I recall a report (no link, sorry) that the chopper hit the top of the compound wall
during the initial phase of the operation. Possibly pilot error, I suppose.

6. I heard it "lost lift and landed hard".
I don't know about helicopters, but I know on planes when you stall, you need a lot of space to recover. You'd have to point the nose down, get enough airspeed to get lift then recover. Approach and departure stalls are the most dangerous as you're so close to the ground. I'm guessing it's similar with helicopters.

7. I've long thought all those UFO reports of those big black triangular ships
that are silent are some sort of stealth thing with noise cancelling technology.
