Was reading the NPR article on the people who think the world will end on May 21st...
http://www.npr.org/2011/05/07/136053462/is-the-end-nigh-well-know-soon-enough

Some of these people have dropped out of school, quit their jobs and plan to spend all their savings before the 21st.

This is not going to end well for these people. Sadly, I predict there may be suicides, kind of like what happened with Jim Jones.

1. Well, I'm not sure if I want to "cry mightily unto god"..
..as the sign that guy is holding, suggests I do.. or if I should maybe just squat and cop a natural, like the silhouetted fella on the sign is doing.. decisions, decisions.

2. This quote is wrong on so many levels
"People need to know," Brown says, "and God commands us to share the Gospel about the end of the world. He says if we do not share the Gospel then their blood will be on our hands, whether they believe or not. God's been moving me to do this."

First of all, the word "gospel" means Good News, so this sentence is insane: "...God commans us to share the (Good News) about the end of the world..."

Secondly, this nut claims that God will blame him if he doesn't evengelize. God is seriously dysfunctional. I've never met a God who simply never takes responsibility for anything! Sure, he gets all the credit when things go well, but man is He quick to blame! What a dork He is!

Far more people believe the world will end in 2012. I think there could be a lot of suicides before or around December of next year, by people trying to "save" themselves from the apocalypse.

56. It's such bullshit
I went on a tour of some Mayan ruins a few weeks ago. The tour guide, who was part Mayan, talked about how nuts this was. Every 52 years they solar and lunar calandars of the Mayans line up. It had nothing to do with the end of the world. It's more like an astrological change, so of like the dawning of the age of Aquarius, only it happens a lot more frequently.

33. FTA:
----
On May 21, "starting in the Pacific Rim at around the 6 p.m. local time hour, in each time zone, there will be a great earthquake, such as has never been in the history of the Earth," he says. The true Christian believers — he hopes he's one of them — will be "raptured": They'll fly upward to heaven. And for the rest?
----

The international date line is, apparently, something they forgot to consider.

18. Oh God, this whole story is just one astounding quote after another
Here's the reason Camping gives for why he got the date (in 1994) wrong before:

"For example, I at that time had not gone through the book of Jeremiah," he explains, "which is a big book in the Bible that has a whole lot to say about the end of the world."

W.T.F.???

The Bible isn't that big, it's just ONE FUCKING BOOK, yet he didn't bother to even read Jeremiah before settling on such an important date as the end of the world???

Maybe this time he didn't read Ruth?

Un fucking believable.

39. Remember: only the "true believers" will be raptured.
Therefore they can still claim it happened (but won't, of course, offer actual evidence of people flying up to heaven).

Of course then that means that everyone left here is NOT a "true believer" and can be called such.

When the 21st comes and goes, and all these people who have given everything away, quite their jobs and liquidated their savings wake up and realize they've been stupid, where are they going to turn to?

Oh, yeah, the government. For food, unemployment checks, welfare, etc. etc. All because of their own stupidity. And we will be bailing them out, with our tax money. We'll be paying the price for their stupidity.
