Judge Extends Recount Deadline For Waukesha County to May 26
Edited on Mon May-09-11 01:08 PM by eowyn_of_rohan
This morning, Dane County Judge Richard Niess granted an extension to Waukesha County. He gave the them about three more weeks -until May 26 - to finish recounting votes for the Wisconsin Supreme Court race.

Waukesha is the only county that hasn't yet completed the recount. They've only completed only about a third of the ballots.

Judge Niess says county officials may be moving slowly, but they are not shirking their responsibility. (not NOW anyway :eyes:)

The county's attorney Tom Farley said Waukesha Co...."is being meticulous about the work because it's at the center of the maelstrom."

Or could it be it is because they are completely bolluxed up by constant 'anomalies', such as improperly sealed or verified ballot bags, non-reconcilable vote counts, etc? I'm tired of the spin...

1. We have been reconciling the counts.

The 2 biggest factors for the slow downs are:
1) The shoddy condition/handling of the bags
2) We are the only large county that has been doing one reporting unit at a time. We're kicking that up starting today, though.

And I agree with Farley - they/we are being meticulous. As we ought be.

2. Just takes a lot of time to go through reconcilation multiple times
They had do that the other day. I assume they eventually reconciled, based on what you just said. When I left they were about 5 off.

4. The poll book reconcile is the most time consuming.
Edited on Mon May-09-11 01:25 PM by PeaceNikki
Example, the last # issued was 1201, but they only count 1198 in book. They have to do a process of marking off all #'s until they find that 3 #'s were never used. This can happen when a poll worker mistakenly tears off more than one number from the pad, creating a "gap" that isn't recognized until said time. They call this "poll book bingo".

They've reconciled every time I've been there and I am told even when I am not.

5. Will the votes in the shoddy bags be spoiled?
I don't understand how they can be accepted if the Chain of Custody has been broken.

Yes, I realize that spoiling votes is a tactic to secure an election otherwise lost.

Finally, Thanks for being able and willing to step up. Here in Md. there are no recounts. :grr:
