L&O L.A script is copying the Gifford shooting, sort of..

Campaigner talking to a crowd, continuous shots fired, and the cops say "Must have been an extended magazine.

I like that the writers are exposing this. Just maybe people who don't really understand what all that means will see the show and get informed.

The station management decided it was too close to home.

is probably right. FWIW the show ended up being a combo of the Gifford shooting and a quasi kidnapping similar to another kidnapping that was in the news a few years ago. It was still a good show but not all about the Gifford shooting.
