"Most of the funding for the IMF comes from America"
"almost 1 out of every $5 to the IMF comes from the US".. 1/5 is "most"? huh?

Really Joe?

This is just another of a long string of pearly bon mots of non-truths that exit the spillway that is Joe Scarborough's mouth....and the rest of the "crew" says nothing...

Everything he says should be accompanied by the "not intended to the factually true" stamp of non approval.

Imagine the hundreds (maybe thousands) of seemingly insignificant throwaway lines uttered every day...fillers that are total lies, but because they seem so banal, and are unchallenged, so they enter the public perception of what is believed.

2. Well, you watch the msm , you get fed horseshit. This is a fundamental truth.
Edited on Tue May-17-11 06:24 AM by geckosfeet
I would take it a few steps farther and say that one out of every thousand lines (throw away or not) has some factual basis.

People watch the msm and think that because someone says something with an air or authority, or simply because they have air time that it must be true.

Sadly, we have become a nation of gullible non-critical non-thinkers. Just what the corporations want.

on edit - written with an air of authority

7. The bigger the lie the more believable it is sometimes
because common sense would tell most people that no one would be so evil to lie that blatantly.. but history tells us otherwise:(

perhaps another reason why the GOP loathes history:evilgrin:

3. From the IMF website it looks like the US contributes 17.75%, or $1 out of each $5.63
Edited on Tue May-17-11 06:25 AM by Nye Bevan
So yes, $1 out of every $5 was a little bit of an exaggeration. He should have said something like "a little more than 1 out of every $6".

6. My objection was to the word "most"
and then of course we also have voting rights commensurate with our share.

These stats should be reported by PERCENTAGE to GDP, but of course we would look pretty sucky if they did that..
