The hypocrisy is astounding,
If it had been another European politician, except a conservative instead of a liberal, also with a reputation for womanizing, say Berlusconi or Sarkozy, we wouldn't be seeing this rush to his defense around here. We wouldn't be seeing this blaming of the victim that we're seeing around here. We wouldn't be seeing this disgusting misogyny in post after post.

But since it is DSK, a socialist, all the sudden everything is fair game? Attacking the victim, labeling her a "honey trap". Positing wild conspiracy theories, where one is more far fetched than the last. Blaming the victim, insisting that she couldn't be a victim, asserting that it is really DSK who is the victim.

All because he is a socialist.:eyes:

The hypocrisy is astounding.

Face the facts people, it doesn't matter what a person's politics are, liberal, conservative, fascist or socialist, they can still be assholes, they can, and do commit assault, against women, against men. Their politics don't determine their guilt or innocence, but rather the person's actions.

So rather than go off on an orgy of hypocrisy, misogyny, blaming the victim and succumbing to ever more bizarre conspiracy theories, try doing the sensible thing, wait for the courts to decide. Wait for the evidence to come in. Act like an adult and see what happens. I know that's hard, I've jumped on the bandwagon before and gotten my happy ass scorched. I learned from that, and now I'm here to tell you folks that it is time you learned that lesson as well. Let the justice system take its course.

And then, after all is said and done, when the final verdict is in, that's when we can weigh in, one weigh or another.

But right now, to continue to blame the victim, posit these wild ass theories, right now all that is doing is making a lot of you look like foolish assholes. And if it does turn out that DSK is truly guilty, you will look even more foolish. So I suggest that you quite while you're ahead.

42. I've often heard it said...
that we hate in others what we most despise in ourselves.

I, too, hate hypocrites.

I, too, am a hypocrite. I know I am. I don't like it, but I'm aware of that fault in myself.

I like to pay attention to the things people rant about in regards to others. The things they hate most.

Like when people see pornography or sexism or racism just about everywhere they look. Like when RW "Family values" guys get all spastic and foamy at the mouth over homosexuals and then they get caught having gay relationships.

People hate what they think they might be themselves...

Thanks for hijacking my thread for that personal announcement.

Sounds like you're either not going to be here long, or since you will have everybody on ignore, we won't hear much from you.

Either way, your motivations for joining up are, well, a bit bizarre to say the least.

Though you should know, he is a caviar socialist... according to the Guardian reporter interviewed by the BBC last night. That was a chuckle.

23. Yeah, I knew that he was not a very good socialist,
And a fairly wealthy one at that. But he would probably be better than Sarkozy.

I think that the NYPD and prosecuting attorney are following the correct procedure. Their logic for denying him bail is impeccable. He will get his day in court, and we will find out the truth of this matter for once and for all. Yeah, it sucks for him to be stuck in Rikers with an election coming up, but no more sucky that the thousands of other poor folks who get stuck for years and decades in jails when they were actually innocent.

tells me they have a case. Somebody who may, or may not have diplomatic immunity and is a well connected person is not somebody cops like to touch... UNLESS they have a case.

it is in the court system... and in the hands of jurors.

But what pisses me off, is how some people are defending him... no, not because he is a socialist... you are well TOO KIND... I hate to say it, but because he is WHITE and RICH...

fact that he's treated like a common, everyday accused perp indicates to some that there's some calculated plot behind this. To me, I'm happy that the guy didn't get the kid-glove treatment.

But then I thought the Duke Lacrosse players were guilty and we all know how that turned out.

I've learned not to jump to too many conclusions, particularly after I found out that a relative by marriage who was a high ranking police officer and nobody's fool thought that OJ was probably innocent.

To keep people quiet. I can't see anyone doing this any other way. The lack of reason is so far out there. I could see a regular guy losing it for some reason and doing it, or I could see a career sociopathic sex pervert doing it all the time and some how convincing victims to keep quiet.

and it still has a bit of an odd odor.

Being a socialist certainly doesn't confer sainthood and rising to a position of power often prevents it completely.

I'm still waiting for all the information including forensic evidence to be either shown or leaked.

45. Yes, people are defending him.
Edited on Tue May-17-11 04:31 PM by JoeyT
Conspiracy theories and victim blaming are pretty much the only ways you can defend someone accused of rape. One tries to create a grand conspiracy in which he didn't really rape her, she's just part of a plot. The other acknowledges that it's possible he raped her, but that she deserved it. People are "just asking questions" the same way Beck does: They don't actually want answers, they just want the question to score a hit on the victim.

As far as red baiting, I'm pretty much a socialist, and I'm not about to defend him or slander her. I will say that anyone that automatically takes a rich white guy's side over a poor black woman's because of his title probably isn't a very good socialist.

Edited to add: Not very many people are defending him. It isn't like there's a legion of defenders. Just a few that are being really vocal.

Of course, I haven't been paying a lot of attention to this story since it first came out, so I could have missed something. He disgusted me just by being a "cavier socialist" (love that phrase). Add to the mix the power trip of rape and this guy didn't seem to be somebody who should be within shouting distance of power.

If he were convicted, even the Stalinists would have had him shot.
