3. Just more ammo to use in the attack on the GOP in 2012
It seems like they are not even thinking about the future anymore. They are just trying to get out with as much money as possible.

5. I guess capitalism doesn't work without
public money subsidizing it. Is that what they are saying with that vote?

15. That is a fact not a proposition.
Capitalism depends on socializing or individualizing the downside. If the exploiters were responsible for the damage they leave in their wakes, profits would be tough to come by in many industries.

35. And they are:
Begich (Alaska) -- property of oil companies
Landrieu (Louisiana) -- property of oil companies
Nelson (Nebraska) -- had to vote with the Republicans just because of who he is

Other than that, it was a straight party-line vote. Even Lieberman voted for it.

29. My thought too, but if 40 of them filibustered, dems would have to get to 60
isn't that the way it works? we don't have 60 and even when we did have 60, we still didn't have 60 :grr:

We would have to have 75 (at least) to ever really get some liberal bills passed:(

24. We WON this one...Dems were the 52. Repubs "demanded" a 60-vote filibuster proof majority.
How do they get away with this shit? And why do our feckless "leaders" keep allowing them to kick us in the balls? I don't get it.

32. Senate rules democrats didn't want to change it out of fear that
they would be in the minority and republicans could then beat them with a simple majority. Nice to know that democrats think that even if they got what they wanted it wouldn't secure their future, as in they think/believe the policies they'd pass would be such crap or that it would be spun so that they'd lose the senate.

34. Then HOW did the Republicans get everything they wanted?
They NEVER had 60 votes in The Senate,
and it didn't stop them, or even slow them down.
