How does someone so sexist and vile have a "love child"?
It seems quite contradictory.

Groping women and forcing yourself on them just doesn't strike me as love, it's more like assault. Especially if the guy is your boss!

The media has this all wrong. Not that it's surprising or anything.

1. Republicans have "love children". Democrats have "illegitimate children" or "bastards"
Didn't you get the memo?

2. Makes you wonder what Shriver's motives were
or maybe she was raised around men like that.

4. She didn't know about the child until recently.
When he told her, she moved out.

Or are you making some other point?

9. How could she not have noticed that he was sexist and vile?
That was the original question. Maybe that's what she thought was the normal way for men to act.

13. I don't know how things were between them...
I doubt she thought he was vile.

It's really difficult to know what goes on inside a marriage, even a public one like theirs...

18. Or perhaps like many other intelligent women, she believed he had changed?
I mean, lots of men (and women) have a history as a single person that some would consider promiscuous or wild.

15. Well duh ... yes she was "raised around men like that" but what is your point
since she left him and showed she wouldn't put up with it. You brought it so what about "motive", what are you trying to get at?

as Maria. Hope she comes forward and explains herself.

Would you keep working for *14 years* for someone who sexually assaulted you? Would it have been that hard to get another housekeeping gig in 1997?

As much as I have absolutely no sympathy for Arnold, there doesn't seem like much evidence here that the woman is a victim of anything except terrible taste in men.

5. The sad thing is the media and his wife protected him when
these allegations first surfaced, the groping and womanizing I mean. And as a result the kept him in the Governor's mansion. Makes you wonder why his wife is leaving him now. Didn't she know what he was up to while he was Governor? Was the position that important to her?

California would have been far better off had he just stepped down. But that's just my opinion, we'll never know what might have been.

8. I'm pretty sure she has said she wasn't told until recently.
At which point, she promptly packed her bags and left.

16. Then she was out of the loop as his philandering was being
discussed each time he was up for reelection with women even coming forward to tell of their experiences. But true, there was no talk of a 'love child' and I believe he admitted to being a 'bad boy' who had cleaned up his act. So, it's possible she believed that, until the latest allegations. Sad for her and their children.

He was enabled.

women who probably need their jobs more than they need their self respect.

17. Simple: He takes said penis and puts it in said vagina
it goes in and out a few times, sperm is released and 9 months later you get a product of both people's DNA

I'm surprised I have to explain this

19. I don't think the mechanics of the act are in question
It's the semantics of the terminology bandied about in the corporate media. 'Love child.' Seems like I heard that term deployed when Strom Thurmond was discovered to have committed statutory rape against a 15-year-old household employee, from which union a child was born.

On a serious note however:

Yes, Strom Thurmond RAPED his employee, and it has always bothered me that the media doesn't call it for what it is

22. That term does deserve to leave the lexicon
Also, I realize that all the political cartoonists and late night comedians are going to have their fun, but at the heart of this is a child who is old enough to see all the jokes. I hope the mother and her husband have taken the time (and Ahhnuld has borne the expense of) to find someone to help this innocent young person, who is now about to be the subject of a national chucklefest, through no fault of his/her own.
