Arizona mom arrested after toddlers wander streets
Edited on Tue May-17-11 06:27 PM by Zephie
(Reuters) - An Arizona mother accused of leaving two young daughters alone in a car while she attended a party was charged with child abuse after the toddlers were found, holding hands, wandering near a busy intersection, police said on Tuesday.

Vanessa Tsinajinnie, 25, drunk and searching a parking lot for her daughters, was arrested before dawn on Monday at about the same time that the whereabouts of the girls, aged 2 and 4, was reported to police by a passerby, said Sergeant Steve Carbajal, a Tempe, Arizona, police spokesman.

The younger girl was wearing a diaper and had no shoes, and the older one was wearing a yellow dress with a broken shoe, Carbajal said. Both were crying.

Tsinajinnie faces two counts of felony child abuse. The girls were placed in the care of an aunt.

7. True true...
At that hour, why not just go home?

Even if you continue to party, you're going to want to be near a bed nonetheless

6. Same thing happened with an acquaintance of mine,
however, it was worse. She was babysitting a couple of toddlers her child's same age, a kind of unlicensed daycare that she was running. She was drinking and passed out. The toddlers wandered out into the street and the neighborhood. Fortunately it was a street with little traffic. Her own child, a three year old, had the presence of mind to call up her aunt and uncle and tell them that mommy was passed out and that the other two children had left the house. The aunt and uncle rounded up the kids and called their parents to come and pick them up. They made up a story about the woman being sick. However, it was enough for them to force her to go into rehab.

8. Happened with an 8 year old special needs boy
I used to work with. Mom went out at night. His teenage brother was supposed to babysit him but didn't show up. He got up in the middle of the night and ate some dog biscuits when he was hungry. No food in the house. He decided he was going to look for his Mom. Went out at 3 AM in only his underpants and wandered the streets. He was found by the police. His mother was arrested for child abandonment, among other charges. We were able to get him to memorize his Dad's cell phone number. Dad came for him, and eventually got full custody.

9. I had my motorcycle parked at a convenience store where I had stopped
for coffee. It was not directly in front of the doors, but near the end of the store front.

I had just walked out of the door when I saw a younster, about four or five years old, starting to climb upon it, on the side where the exhaust pipes are. The mom was about four feet away.

I shouted "Ma'am, all the shiny parts are hot. They will blister skin!"

The lady said to the child "Mustn't climb on the motorcycle."

How could she not have seen what the child was about to do, considering they were outside at the edge of the parking area, not too far from the gas pumps.

Some people should not have kids.

10. The lady across the street from us has had her 2 y/o daughter found wandering our street twice now
no idea what the mother does - they park their car in the backyard - usually something one does to hide it from Repo men. Child services were called but didn't do anything. :(

14. There seem to be more and more of these stories
or toddler abuse, willful neglect or outright murder...

Are we as a society simply losing the ability to raise children properly?
